Sony BRAVIA 7 II
Samsung R95H
The Samsung R95H is slightly better than the Sony BRAVIA 7 II on paper, but the Sony is still a great choice. The Samsung TV delivers a brighter, more vibrant image with more saturated colors that stand out better, especially in a bright room. Although the Sony model offers a more muted picture in comparison, it's also more accurate, so it's worth considering if you care about creative intent.

No problem at all!! Thank you for clarifying we’re definitely not perfect so we appreciate folks feeling comfortable enough to point out potential issues!
Hi Justin,
Apologies, I mistakenly looked at the home theatre score, you had given it an 8.6 rating.
Thank you for correcting me.
Hey! We checked through our review history/changelog and we did not update the review on the bravia 7 II and we haven’t changed the methodology. If you had a snapshot of the review it would be great!
I had taken a snapshot of your initial review, where the Bravia 7 II was given an 8.6 rating for mixed usage. However, I noticed that the rating has now been reduced to 8.4, and I’m not sure why.
I understand that you have retested the R95H after the new update, which may explain any changes to its scores. But I’m curious, what prompted the reduction in the Bravia 7 II’s mixed-usage rating?
Was there a change in the scoring methodology, a correction to the original testing results, or did the Bravia 7 II itself get retested?
I’m not questioning the updated score; I’d just like to understand what changed between the initial 8.6 and the current 8.4 rating.
Bit confused.
Great questions!
We have seen that it is possible to improve features through firmware upgrades, as you mentioned the R95H is a good example of this, now regarding what a manufacture decides to update it is difficult to say. If there was a substantial update and users report seeing updates we do go ahead and give them a second look to see any potential changes good or bad.
Since you are asking about skin tones & picture accuracy specifically the Bravia 7 II does have the edge in the out of the box accuracy on the unit we tested. Comparing them side by side on the website we can see where they trade blows. PQ EOTF is excellent on both so HDR content benefits there. Hope this answers your questions!
Thanks for clarifying! That makes sense regarding the R95H being retested after the firmware update.
I had a couple of follow-up questions:
Does this also mean that if Sony releases a firmware update for the BRAVIA 7 II that improves things like response time, picture quality, processing, or upscaling, you would retest it and potentially update its scores as well? In other words, if Sony makes meaningful improvements through a firmware update, would you expect the BRAVIA 7 II’s scores to improve accordingly?
More specifically, how would you rate the BRAVIA 7 II’s overall picture quality compared with the Samsung R95H after the R95H’s latest firmware update, particularly if we’re looking at the BRAVIA 7 II in its current state without any updates? I’m especially interested in SDR/HDR picture quality, upscaling, and how realistic or natural the overall image looks.
In particular, how do you find the skin tones and overall color presentation on the BRAVIA 7 II compared with the R95H? Would you say the Sony has a more natural or realistic presentation, especially with skin tones, faces, and everyday content?
And considering the improvements the R95H received with the firmware update, would you still say that the BRAVIA 7 II produces the better overall SDR and HDR picture, or does the Samsung now have the edge in some or all areas?
I’m mainly trying to understand which TV you think produces the better-looking and more realistic image overall, rather than simply which one scores higher in the measurements. Thanks again!
Hello! We do mention this in our review but the R95H was retested on September 10th! It’s mention on the right side right above the picture, in the updates section, and several times throughout the review!
More specifically though we say: We retested the TV after updating it to firmware 1235. Samsung has considerably improved the TV’s response time and all three CAD results, and the pre-calibration results in both SDR and HDR improved slightly. We also updated the stutter results and contrast, and spot-checked our other measurements to ensure nothing else changed. The TV’s overall scores and text have been updated to reflect the latest firmware.
Let me know if this still feels unclear or you have any additional questions or concerns :)
Now the results are showing that the R95H is better. Why have the results changed?
Initially, you rated the R95H at 8.3 for mixed usage, while the Bravia 7-II was rated 8.4.
In most of the test parameters, you had shown that the B7-II was superior, except for bright-room performance & Black levels. But now, when I look at the results, they seem to support the R95H instead.
Seriously, this is bad practice.
