The Hisense UR8SG (UR8 for short) is an upper midrange TV that sits between the Hisense UR9SG and the Hisense U7SG in the brand’s 2026 lineup. It’s the most affordable RGB Mini LED model Hisense offers. This new panel technology is designed to increase color volume over more traditional Mini LED displays. The TV also features Hisense's new Obsidian panel coating, which is meant to do a better job handling reflections while also retaining deeper blacks in a bright room than standard glossy coatings. The TV has four HDMI 2.1 ports that are capable of up to 4k @ 180Hz or 1080p @ 330Hz, and it features VRR to reduce screen tearing. The TV utilizes Google TV 14 as its smart OS, which gives you access to a huge catalog of apps. We bought and tested the 65-inch model, but it’s also available in 55-, 75-, 85-, and 100-inch sizes.
Our Verdict
The Hisense UR8 is very good for mixed usage, since the TV is quite versatile. It looks good in bright rooms, since it overcomes glare while also displaying vibrant colors. It also looks great during movie nights in a dark room, thanks to its good contrast. On top of its very good image quality, it's a solid gaming TV since it offers a ton of modern gaming features, like high refresh rates and VRR, but there is some motion blur present in fast-paced titles.

The Hisense UR8 is very good for home theaters. Its local dimming does a good job of deepening blacks, so the image has good depth in a dark room. Colors are rich and vibrant, but they're very inaccurate out of the box, so it doesn't do a very good job of translating the filmmaker's intent. Fortunately, highlights pop out well, so HDR content looks impressive. The TV's motion handling is decent, but you might notice some motion blur in action movies. It supports every commonly used audio and HDR format, giving it great compatibility.

The Hisense UR8 is great for bright rooms. It's bright enough to overcome glare in a well-lit space when you're watching bright content like sports or reality shows. However, reflections are visible during dark scenes in movies and shows, especially when you have light sources directly facing the screen. Image quality is mostly unaffected by ambient light, so blacks stay deep, and colors remain vibrant in a room with the lights on.

The Hisense UR8 is very good for watching sports. It overcomes glare on a sunny day thanks to its high peak brightness, so you don't have to worry about reflections. It also does a great job cleaning up artifacts from low-quality feeds, like cable channels and low-bandwidth streams. Unfortunately, there are color artifacts around fast-moving players and objects on top of some motion blur, which affects the clarity of motion. It's also not a great option for a wide seating area, since image quality is decreased when you're watching from an angle.

The Hisense UR8 is very good for gaming. The TV has four HDMI 2.1 ports that support either 4k @ 180Hz or 1080p @ 330Hz, so it completely covers the refresh rates offered by modern consoles and gives PC gamers options. It supports VRR to reduce screen tearing, and input lag is very low. Unfortunately, there is some visible motion blur in fast-paced games, but it's not as bad if you can game in higher refresh rates than 60Hz. Games look very good thanks to the TV's solid image quality, and the TV maintains this solid image quality when you use its dedicated gaming mode.

The black levels on the Hisense UR8 are good. The local dimming does a very good job of deepening blacks, even when they're next to bright highlights. Its native contrast ratio is decent enough that dark areas of the image don't look washed out in more complex scenes where the local dimming can't keep up. Unfortunately, there's visible haloing around bright lights in dark scenes and subtitles, which can be distracting.

The Hisense UR8 has very good colors. It has fantastic color volume, leading to rich, vibrant, and well-saturated colors in all types of content. Unfortunately, the TV has terrible SDR color accuracy out of the box, leading to an image that looks too warm. Its accuracy is better out-of-the-box in HDR, but it's still only decent and the image still has a noticeable red tint. If you care about accuracy, you will want to get it calibrated. There's also some color crosstalk due to its RGB Mini LED backlight, which causes whites to take on the tint of whatever color they're closest to.

The Hisense UR8 has decent motion handling when watching movies, shows, and sports. There's no micro-judder at all, and the vast majority of content is completely free from judder. There's still some stutter that can affect the smoothness of motion, especially in slow-panning shots, but it's not too bad and can be reduced with a light amount of motion interpolation. Unfortunately, motion is a bit blurry due to its only decent response time, and there are some color artifacts in fast action.

The Hisense UR8 has decent responsiveness when gaming. It offers up to 4k @ 180Hz and 1080p @ 330Hz, so console gamers are covered, and PC gamers have the option to choose between a higher resolution or higher frame rates. It supports VRR to reduce screen tearing, and input lag is very low. Motion in fast-paced games is a bit blurry, though, especially when gaming at 60Hz.

The Hisense UR8 has great processing. It has excellent upscaling, so low-resolution content like DVDs don't look too soft. It does a very good job of reducing artifacts in low-bitrate content, like YouTube videos. There's some banding in certain color gradients, but it's not too distracting. It also has excellent brightness tracking in HDR, but blacks are raised, which makes them lack depth in some scenes.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants
We bought and tested the 65-inch Hisense UR8SG, and these results also apply to the 55-, 75-, 85-, and 100-inch models. The number of zones increases as you step up in size, but the area per zone is very similar across all sizes, so we expect mostly consistent performance across all sizes.

Popular TV Comparisons
The Hisense UR8 is a very good TV overall, but it's a bit disappointing compared to previous iterations. Although the TV can display punchier colors than the 2025 Hisense U8QG due to its RGB Mini LED backlight, its black levels are a big step down, and it suffers from very poor out-of-the-box accuracy. There's also more visible color crosstalk than there is on other RGB Mini LED TVs, like the Sony BRAVIA 7 II and the Samsung R95H, which can be distracting. You can get better performance overall from competing models like the TCL QM8L, but it's a bit better than the Samsung R85H. If you really want an RGB Mini LED model, you're better off going with a TV like the BRAVIA 7 II instead.

The Hisense UR9SG and the Hisense UR8SG are similar, but the UR9 is a bit better. The UR9 offers much deeper blacks with less haloing around highlights, so it's a better option for dark rooms. Both TVs are very bright, but the UR9's higher peak brightness allows it to overcome a bit more glare in a bright room. Finally, the UR9's motion interpolation does a better job reducing stutter.
Even though it's a year older, the Hisense U8QG is better overall than the Hisense UR8SG. The U8QG displays much deeper blacks thanks to its much higher contrast ratio, and there's less glowing around highlights and subtitles. The U8QG is also better for bright rooms, since it's brighter and has better reflection handling. Colors are also more accurate on the U8QG, motion looks clearer when watching movies and sports, and its wider viewing angle makes it more suitable for wide seating arrangements. The UR8 is more colorful, but whites can be tinted by surrounding colors, which can be distracting.
The TCL QM8L is better than the Hisense UR8SG. The TCL displays much deeper blacks with less visible haloing around highlights and subtitles, so it looks much better in dark rooms. The TCL is also brighter, so it handles more glare in a bright room and highlights stand out more in HDR. The TCL is more suitable for wider seating arrangements, since its image quality holds up better when viewed from an angle. On the other hand, the Hisense has brighter and punchier colors, but whites take on the tint of whatever color they're closest to, which can be distracting in some scenes.
The Sony BRAVIA 7 II is better than the Hisense UR8SG overall. The Sony displays deeper black with less haloing around highlights and subtitles, offers much better accuracy, and its processing does a better job upscaling and cleaning up low-quality content, so it offers a more refined experience. However, the TCL has better gaming performance since it offers clearer motion, much higher refresh rates, and four HDMI 2.1 ports.

The Hisense UR8 has fantastic peak brightness in HDR. Bright details really pop in most content, but some smaller highlight details are slightly dimmed by the TV's local dimming. Very bright scenes like outdoor shots or the odd HDR sports stream are incredibly bright as well.
The posted results are with the TV in Filmmaker Mode, which is the most accurate picture mode, with 'Dynamic Tone Mapping' (DTM) set to 'Off.' Below are additional measurements with the different DTM options. These settings barely affect the TV's peak brightness, but they do give you a brighter image overall.

The peak brightness in SDR is fantastic. It's bright enough to overcome glare during the day. It's also bright enough to overcome bright lights during the day when watching sports or bright outdoor shots where more of the screen is bright at once.

The Hisense UR8 has a good contrast ratio. The native contrast ratio of the panel is decent, which helps to maintain somewhat deep blacks in more complex scenes where the local dimming feature can't keep up. Blacks are much deeper when local dimming does kick in, so the image doesn't look washed out.
Unfortunately, the TV's contrast is significantly worse than 2025's version of this TV, the Hisense U8QG, and it's even worse than the model below this one in Hisense's lineup, the Hisense U7SG.

The lighting zone precision is alright. There's visible haloing around bright lights in otherwise dark scenes, which bleeds into surrounding dark areas and impacts the depth of blacks. There's also a very noticeable glow around subtitles, which is a bit distracting. The haloing isn't as bad when you're sitting directly in front of the TV, but it's still noticeable.
Unfortunately, the TV's dimming zones do a worse job of avoiding this excess glow than 2025's Hisense U8QG, and there's even more haloing than there is on the cheaper Hisense U7SG.

The Hisense UR8 has excellent color volume in SDR. Most colors are very vibrant and punchy, but it struggles to maintain color saturation in the lightest shades.
This test is usually performed with local dimming disabled, but that results in much lower coverage of the DCI-P3 and BT.2020 color spaces. With local dimming disabled, all RGB diodes appear to remain active simultaneously, increasing white output and reducing color saturation. Our posted results are with local dimming enabled, since that's a better representation of the TV's real-world performance. Even then, the TV washes out light yellows and greens.

The HDR color volume on this TV is fantastic. Bright colors are punchy and vibrant, and dark colors are deep and well-saturated. It doesn't cover the entirety of either HDR color space, but colors in HDR content still look great.
Like the Hisense UR9SG, there's noticeable color crosstalk caused by the RGB backlight system, but it's actually more noticeable than it is on that TV. This is especially noticeable when colors bleed into something white on the screen.
This new backlight system makes the color volume seem better than it is when measuring it with synthetic test patterns, as the TV is able to turn off the unneeded colors, and there's no crosstalk since most color volume test patterns only use one color at a time.
We took additional measurements with a modified test pattern that's designed to better represent real content. With this modified test pattern, the DCI-P3 color space coverage drops to about 82%, and the BT.2020 coverage to about 51%.

The Hisense UR8 has terrible SDR color accuracy out of the box, and it's significantly less accurate than competing models like the Samsung R85H. The white balance is awful, with way too much red represented throughout. This contributes to an overly warm color temperature, and most colors look much warmer than intended. The gamma tracking is also slightly off throughout, and the image looks a bit too dim.

The TV is easy to calibrate, and calibration drastically improves its accuracy. The white balance is fantastic, and the color temperature is essentially perfect. The gamma is much better now, and only brighter areas of the image are darker than they should be. Overall color accuracy is very good, but blues do lean more towards teal than intended.

However, there's a rolloff near the TV's peak brightness that helps to retain detail in specular highlights in the rare content mastered at 4,000 nits.

It's low enough in all modes that games feel responsive, and there's no noticeable delay between your actions on your controller and the action on the screen.
It offers a low-latency motion interpolation feature. This helps improve the fluidity of older games that don't support frame generation natively, without adding a significant amount of latency.
The TV supports all common resolutions up to 4k @ 180Hz on all four of its HDMI ports. It also supports up to 330Hz with 1080p signals. All supported formats also support proper chroma 4:4:4, which is essential for clear text from a PC.

The Hisense UR8 uses a new RGB Mini LED panel, which is mainly designed to increase color volume. Instead of a traditional blue backlight with quantum dot color converters, it uses separate red, green, and blue LEDs to produce light.
There are high peaks on reds, blues, and greens, and there's excellent separation between them, giving the TV great color purity. Unfortunately, unlike Sony BRAVIA 9 II and Samsung R95H, it uses a BGR subpixel layout, which can make text harder to read when using the TV as a PC monitor.

The Hisense UR8 runs version 14 of the very popular Google TV smart interface. There's a huge selection of apps for both streaming and gaming, it's easy to use, and it supports multiple user profiles.
Unfortunately, we encountered an issue where the TV's interface continues to loop as if it's booting up. The best way to fix this without factory resetting the TV is to clear the Google TV Launchers data and cache.
Running AIDA64 on the TV shows that it's powered by the MediaTek Pentonic 800 SoC (HIS9655), with 4GB of RAM and 18GB of total internal storage.

Unfortunately, like most TVs, the interface contains ads. You can opt out of personalized ads, but this doesn't change the number of ads you'll see; they just won't be personalized to match your search and viewing history.
You have the option to set up the TV using the 'Basic Google TV' option, which gets rid of ads but prevents you from using most of the TV's smart features.

The Hisense UR8 TV has a decent frequency response. It doesn't output much bass, but it's not non-existent, so the speakers don't sound too hollow. The sound profile has alright balance, but there's a lack of treble when used at maxed volume. Dialogue is easy enough to understand, but the speakers don't get very loud.
