The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is a highly specialized marathon racer that brings a prototype-like design to elite competition. Its exceptionally light build and soft, bouncy midsole prioritize race performance, with substantial compromises in stability and durability. Best reserved for a single target marathon, it's an impractical choice for most runners seeking lasting training and racing mileage.

Our Verdict
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is excellent for long-distance racing. It combines exceptionally low weight with excellent energy return and outstanding cushioning that retains most of its protection over an extended effort. The pronounced forefoot rocker also helps guide the stride toward toe-off. However, its very soft platform is unstable, particularly at the heel. It targets elite racers with precise, consistent form and offers little support when your landings become uncontrolled.
Exceptionally lightweight.
Outstanding impact protection.
Cushioning holds up over long efforts.
Excellent energy return at the heel and forefoot.
Forefoot rebounds efficiently after bending.
Very soft foam makes the platform unstable.
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is very good for 5K and 10K racing. Its exceptionally low weight stands out, while efficient energy return and a pronounced forefoot rocker support fast running. However, the front of the shoe is softer and quite flexible, giving you less of a firm platform to push against. Runners seeking a firm, immediate push-off may find its softer response less suited to short, intense efforts.
Exceptionally lightweight.
Excellent energy return at the heel and forefoot.
Forefoot rebounds efficiently after bending.
Very aggressive forefoot rocker promotes forward roll.
Very soft forefoot lacks a firm push-off.
Rocker flattens relatively easily under load.
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 delivers very good long-run performance despite its extremely minimal, fragile construction. It still provides outstanding cushioning that retains its protective qualities over an extended effort, an impressive achievement at such a low weight. Its minimal weight and pronounced forefoot rocker also suit sustained running. However, subpar stability makes the soft platform more demanding to control, especially as your form deteriorates. Its thin upper and limited outsole protection make it highly impractical for regular long-run training.

Test Results
Energy Return
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 delivers excellent energy return. Both the heel and forefoot return a high proportion of the energy applied to them, supporting an energetic ride throughout the stride. The forefoot has slightly better energy return, so forefoot strikers will benefit even more from the foam's lively rebound.
Excellent energy return at the heel and forefoot.
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 delivers excellent forefoot energy return. It also improves on its predecessor, returning more of the energy put into the foam, which creates a lively rebound during sustained fast running.
Heel energy return is excellent, with little energy lost as the foam compresses and rebounds. This makes the heel very energetic. It's among the most efficient foams we've tested, although the Brooks Hyperion Elite 6 returns slightly more energy.
Stability
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 has subpar stability. Its broad platform under the arch provides some support, but the very soft foam throughout the midsole allows substantial compression. The heel platform is also relatively narrow for its height, leaving less margin for controlling movement when landing farther back. These characteristics make it demanding for runners who need a steady base, particularly during longer efforts when maintaining consistent form becomes harder.
Broad platform beneath the arch.
Very soft foam makes the platform unstable.
Heel platform is narrow for its height.
The heel is very soft across the tested load range and considerably softer than on the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2. There's a lot of give when you land, creating a plush feel but offering little firm support to help control movement. You need clean, controlled landings to avoid excessive wobbling, making this a better fit for efficient runners who maintain good form and land closer to the forefoot.
There's very little firmness beneath the forefoot. The foam remains much softer than the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, providing a plush platform with less of a firm surface to push against. This explains why the ride feels bouncy without the same immediate, snappy push-off.
A U-shaped carbon-fiber rim called ENERGYRIM replaces the individual rods used in the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2. It wraps around the outer edge of the midsole. The rim adds a little bit of bending stiffness and helps limit side-to-side movement when you land, giving the very soft foam a tiny bit more support.
Cushioning
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 provides outstanding cushioning, with exceptional impact absorption under the forefoot and excellent protection at the heel. It absorbs substantial energy across a range of loads, providing ample protection for demanding long-distance efforts despite its minimal weight. However, the very soft platform is unstable, so this protection comes in a shoe intended for elite racers with precise, consistent form. It won't steady your landings when your technique breaks down.
Outstanding impact protection.
Cushioning holds up over long efforts.
Heel cushioning is excellent despite the shoe's minimal weight. Impact absorption is outstanding under lighter loads and remains very good at the highest loads tested.
The forefoot provides outstanding cushioning. Impact absorption is exceptional under lighter loads and remains excellent under heavier loads, providing substantial protection during demanding efforts.
Cushioning performance over longer efforts is outstanding. In our simulated 50km lab test, protection declines only modestly as impacts accumulate and remains excellent late in the test. Performance stays broadly similar to the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, which is plenty for running a full marathon.
Bounciness
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 has excellent bounciness. Its soft midsole compresses deeply at both the heel and forefoot, then returns energy efficiently to produce a pronounced springy sensation underfoot. This combination gives the ride plenty of rebound, particularly through the forefoot. However, the substantial compression also creates a less settled platform, which may feel demanding for runners who prefer firmer, more controlled cushioning.
Excellent energy return at the heel and forefoot.
Deep midsole compression contributes to a springy ride.
Snappiness
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 offers fair snappiness. Its forefoot returns bending energy efficiently, but moderate bending stiffness and very soft foam limit the firm, immediate push-off associated with sharper racers. The rocker helps shape the transition, though the shoe's lively character comes primarily from deep compression and rebound. It therefore feels more bouncy than mechanically snappy when pushing off.
Forefoot rebounds efficiently after bending.
Very soft forefoot lacks a firm push-off.
Forefoot bending energy return is excellent. The front of the shoe springs back efficiently after bending, returning energy as you push off with little lost in the process.
Forefoot bending stiffness is decent. The front flexes quite a bit during push-off, providing only a moderately stiff platform to push against. This limits how snappy the shoe feels.
An exceptionally aggressive forefoot rocker defines the front of this shoe. It starts even earlier and rises higher than on the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, which already had a pronounced rocker. This dramatic shape encourages forward roll toward toe-off, but getting the most from it requires efficient form, as the extremely aggressive rocker tips you forward a lot.
Roll
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 has good roll, helped by a very aggressive forefoot rocker that guides the foot toward toe-off. However, that rocker flattens relatively easily under load, and the moderate forefoot stiffness provides less resistance to bending than more rigid designs. This reduces how strongly the shoe guides the transition. The aggressive front rocker works best when you land near the forefoot, so this shoe isn't intended for heel strikers.
Very aggressive forefoot rocker promotes forward roll.
Decent forefoot stiffness helps guide toe-off.
Rocker flattens relatively easily under load.
The rocker isn't particularly stiff, so it loses some of its pronounced shape under load. It flattens under much less force than the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, reducing how strongly it guides you forward. The aggressive geometry still encourages roll, but it doesn't maintain a rigid rocking shape throughout the stride.
Despite its exceptionally low weight, this remains a high-stack marathon racer with plenty of material separating your foot from the road. The heel sits at essentially the same height as the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, while the forefoot is slightly lower. There's substantial foam beneath both the heel and forefoot, with a relatively low heel-to-toe drop.
The heel rocker is much milder than on the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, with a flatter angle and less lift at the back. It provides little assistance rolling forward from a heel landing. This geometry is built around runners who already land closer to the forefoot, so it isn't intended for heel strikers. The second, smaller heel cutout visible in the photo houses a mirrored insert designed to reflect the adizero logo. This is a purely aesthetic detail.
True To Size
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 fits true to size, but the arch is very narrow, and the toe box tapers toward the front. The snug fit provides good lockdown for racing, though it can feel restrictive on wider feet. No wide version is available.
True-to-size length.
Fits as expected across the ball of the foot.
Very narrow arch and tapered toe box.
The fit is close to standard at the ball of the foot, but the toe box narrows toward the front. This taper is typical of a close-fitting marathon racer, though runners who prefer room to spread their toes may find it restrictive.
Wet & Warm Weather
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is great for wet and warm weather overall. Its very low water absorption keeps added weight to a minimum in the rain, and it dries exceptionally quickly afterward. However, breathability is only mediocre despite the thin upper, so it isn't especially effective at keeping your feet cool during hot runs.
Absorbs very little water.
Dries exceptionally quickly.
Mediocre breathability.
Despite its extremely thin upper, breathability is only mediocre. Air doesn't pass through particularly easily, limiting ventilation during sustained efforts. The minimal construction therefore isn't especially effective at keeping your feet cool during hot races.
At the time of writing, the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is by far the lightest shoe we've tested. The entire pair weighs less than a single Nike Alphafly 3, itself a very lightweight marathon racer. It's so light that comparing it with a gaming mouse like the roughly 100 g Razer Basilisk V3 almost makes more sense than comparing it with other running shoes. This iteration cuts substantial weight from the already ultralight adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 while retaining a tall midsole. The low-density foam and minimal construction leave less mass to lift and swing with every stride, helping reduce the energy cost of running.
Lightstrike Pro Evo is a premium TPEE foam tuned for exceptionally low weight. Although it shares its name and foam family with the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2, this version is substantially softer and returns energy more efficiently. Its low-density formulation helps preserve a thick, protective midsole while cutting weight dramatically.
Popular Running Shoe Comparisons
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 is the brand's most advanced marathon racer, pushing weight savings far beyond conventional super shoes. It's built for elite runners chasing exceptional times, with the first marathon world record under two hours being the most notable example. At that level, you probably already have a sponsor supplying your shoes. But even for very fast runners paying out of pocket, its steep price is hard to justify unless money is no object. The ASICS METASPEED RAY and PUMA Fast-R NITRO Elite 3 still offer elite racing performance for substantially less money, although neither matches the Evo 3's exceptionally low weight. Those extraordinary weight savings come with a fragile construction that's less durable, making the Evo 3 a much less practical option for repeated racing. Within the brand's lineup, the adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 offers a less aggressive, more practical racing option for most runners, though it isn't quite as efficient.

The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 and adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 are successive generations of the brand's elite marathon racer. Choose the Evo 3 for substantially less weight, better energy return, and a softer, bouncier ride without sacrificing cushioning. The Evo 2 remains worth considering if you prefer a firmer push-off and stronger forward roll, particularly for shorter races. The newer shoe advances weight reduction and bounce, but doesn't replicate the older model's more snappy feel.
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 and ASICS METASPEED RAY are ultralight marathon racers with soft, bouncy rides. Choose the adidas for its substantially lower weight and better cushioning late in a marathon, provided you don't mind its very steep price. Both are unstable, but the ASICS is more demanding to control. The ASICS delivers comparable energy return and overall cushioning for substantially less money, making it the better value if you can handle its narrow platform.
The adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 and PUMA Fast-R NITRO Elite 3 are elite marathon racers with similarly excellent energy return. Choose the adidas for its dramatically lower weight, better cushioning over long efforts, and softer, bouncier ride. The PUMA offers a firmer, snappier push-off and stronger forward roll at a substantially lower price, making it the better value if you prefer a more rigid racing shoe. However, it's even less stable than the adidas.
Differences Between Sizes And Variants
We tested the adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3 in men's U.S. size 9, as noted on the label for our pair. The color shown here is Cloud White / Core Black / Solar Turbo. This model is not available in additional colorways, and no wide versions are offered for either men or women. The design section applies only to the exact model we tested, but we expect other sizes and gender variants to perform similarly.
