The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 is a plated max-cushioned shoe designed for runners who want plenty of protection across easy miles and longer runs. Its ride is soft and smooth, with enough structure to keep its tall platform reasonably stable. It’s especially useful when your legs feel beaten up and need extra cushioning. It can handle the occasional stride, but it feels too bulky for faster workouts. Overall, it’s best for runners who prioritize cushioning and comfort over speed.

Our Verdict
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 isn't designed as a racing shoe, but it's an adequate option for completing half marathons and marathons in comfort. Its high stack of deep cushioning provides plenty of underfoot buffer to protect your legs over long distances. However, its heavy construction and sluggish transitions make it poorly suited to chasing personal bests, while the plate delivers very little added propulsion.
Exceptional heel cushioning provides excellent protection for heel strikers.
Very high stack makes for a big buffer between your legs and the road.
Heavy build feels bulky underfoot.
Limited propulsion makes faster efforts feel harder.
Ultra-high stack paired with plush foam makes the ride a bit unstable.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 is a mediocre choice for 5K and 10K racing. Its moderate rocker and fairly firm forefoot help you move through each stride, but the shoe feels too heavy and unresponsive for sustained efforts at faster paces. It can cover these distances comfortably, though runners focused on speed will be better served by something lighter and more springy.
Rocker helps the large platform move through the stride.
Heavy build feels bulky underfoot.
Limited propulsion makes faster efforts feel harder.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 is a decent option for long runs that prioritize comfort and protection. Its excellent cushioning remains protective as the miles add up, though the stack of soft foam can make you feel high off the ground and less stable. The plate adds enough structure to keep the ride from feeling overly unstable, so it remains reasonably steady overall. Its heavy weight and poor responsiveness still make it better for easy long runs than faster progression efforts.
Exceptional heel cushioning provides excellent protection for heel strikers.
Wide platform and plate help keep the tall ride reasonably stable.
Rocker helps the large platform move through the stride.
Heavy build feels bulky underfoot.
Ultra-high stack paired with plush foam makes the ride a bit unstable.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 is an adequate daily trainer for runners who mainly log easy miles. Its cushioning is super protective, and its broad platform provides enough stability to keep the tall ride reasonably steady. However, its heavy construction and low responsiveness make it feel less natural and effortless underfoot, so it's best suited to relaxed daily runs rather than faster training.
Wide platform and plate help keep the tall ride reasonably stable.
A touch of bounce keeps easy daily miles from feeling dull.
Rocker helps the large platform move through the stride.
Heavy build feels bulky underfoot.
Ultra-high stack paired with plush foam makes the ride a bit unstable.
Plated construction can feel less natural underfoot during everyday runs.
We buy and test running shoes with a very data-oriented approach. While we're just getting started, our methodology already has dozens of tests to help you make the right purchasing decision for your needs. Not only do we use high-end equipment to gather objective data, but we also order multiple sizes of the same shoes so team members can log in miles. This real-world testing is conducted at various paces and conditions, across different types of workouts, to cover all the bases. This allows us to verify our results and ensure they align with what you might feel with a specific pair.
Test Results
Energy Return
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 has acceptable energy return. It produces enough bounce to add some fun to easy daily miles, but it doesn't translate into meaningful propulsion. The midsole feels lively enough at relaxed paces, yet it lacks the energetic rebound needed to make faster running feel more effortless.
A touch of bounce keeps easy daily miles from feeling dull.
Limited energy return doesn't make the ride feel propulsive.
The forefoot returns a modest amount of energy, though it feels noticeably bouncier than the Mizuno Neo Vista 2. This adds some pep to easy running, but not enough to make faster efforts feel effortless.
Stability
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 offers reasonable stability for a shoe with such a tall stack. Its wide base creates a supportive landing platform. However, the soft foam makes the heel feel less stable, and while the platform is quite wide, it only partly offsets the super high stack, so the ride can still feel a little wobbly. It should still be stable enough for most runners, unless you need extra support features.
Wide platform and plate help keep the tall ride reasonably stable.
Ultra-high stack paired with plush foam makes the ride a bit unstable.
The heel is very soft, and it compresses easily underfoot. It isn't quite as plush as the Nike Vomero Premium, but it comes close, giving heel strikers a forgiving landing at the expense of some stability.
The chunky midsole feels firmer in the forefoot than in the heel. It's still softer than some other cushioned trainers like the R.A.D MALLOW but firmer than the previous Mizuno Neo Vista 2, creating a more stable and less chaotic ride at the cost of some plushness.
Cushioning
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 provides excellent cushioning. Its maximal stack absorbs impact extremely well, making it especially protective during long runs or on days when your legs already feel tired. Heel protection is especially impressive, making it an excellent option for heel strikers.
Exceptional heel cushioning provides excellent protection for heel strikers.
Super high stack helps in absorbing a lot of the impact.
Doesn't feel quite as plush for runners who put down a lot of force.
The high-stacked midsole provides outstanding heel cushioning. Its deep and soft heel absorbs impact extremely well, making it especially protective for heel strikers and those who apply a lot of force when striking the ground.
This third iteration still provides great forefoot cushioning, though it absorbs noticeably less impact than the previous Mizuno Neo Vista 2. Its slightly lower forefoot stack leaves less total foam to absorb impact, bringing protection closer to the original Mizuno Neo Vista while remaining very comfortable.
Responsiveness
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 offers acceptable responsiveness. The midsole is quite bouncy, and the plate adds a bit of stiffness, but the rocker flattens quite easily, so it doesn't produce much snap or forward propulsion. This means the rocker keeps transitions smooth at relaxed paces, but the shoe feels cumbersome and dull during faster efforts.
Rocker helps the large platform move through the stride.
Limited propulsion makes faster efforts feel harder.
Rocker flattens quite easily and looses its effectiveness.
The shoe returns an acceptable amount of energy as the forefoot unbends, giving it a fairly dynamic ride at moderate paces. However, it doesn't feel especially snappy or efficient when you try to hold very fast paces.
The shoe is fairly resistant to bending through the forefoot, helped by its plastic plate, which adds a bit of structure to the tall platform, but it's not enough to translate into strong snap or propulsion.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 has a moderately pronounced forefoot rocker. The angle isn't especially aggressive, but its relatively high toe spring creates a rolling sensation and reduces the effort needed to toe off.
True To Size
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 fits true to size. Its sock-like upper provides standard length and overall width, with enough space through both the forefoot and arch for most feet. The toe box is slightly lower than ideal, though this is unlikely to cause problems, and you can confidently choose your usual size.
Length and width room suit most foot shapes.
Sock-like upper gently hugs the foot in key areas.
Not the most vertical space for your toes.
The shoe has an accurate length, correcting the notably long fit of the previous Mizuno Neo Vista 2. Choose your usual size in this version; runners who sized down in the previous model should generally return to their normal size.
This shoe is quite heavy, with essentially the same weight as the previous Mizuno Neo Vista 2. Its heft becomes noticeable when you increase the pace, but it's less concerning on easy and recovery days when cushioning is the priority.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 has an exceptionally high stack, placing it alongside max-cushioned shoes like the HOKA Skyward X 2. A few models, such as the Nike Vomero Premium, sit even higher and deliver an even more protective ride.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 has a pronounced heel rocker that smooths out landings and helps heel strikers roll forward through the large platform.
This third iteration uses the same dual-layer setup as its predecessor, with softer, livelier TPU on top of a firmer EVA base. The upper layer adds bounce and cushioning, while the lower layer acts as a carrier, keeping the tall midsole slightly more controlled.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 uses standard flat laces, but the tongue is built into the sock-like upper. Tightening the laces pulls and folds the upper instead of pressing on an independent tongue, so adjustments can feel less precise. It takes some getting used to, but it doesn't cause discomfort.
The midsole retains most of its cushioning under higher forces, so it stays protective as the miles build. This makes it a great option for long runs.
Differences Between Sizes And Variants
We tested the Mizuno Neo Vista 3 in men's US size 9, as indicated on the label of our pair. The color shown here is White/Black/Orange. This model is also available in additional color options depending on your region. Wide versions aren't available. The design section applies only to the exact model we tested, but we expect other sizes and gender variants to perform similarly.
Popular Running Shoe Comparisons
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 is a plated max-cushioned trainer that prioritizes protection over speed. It competes closely with the HOKA Skyward X 2, another tall, plated trainer that uses its plate mainly to stabilize the soft midsole rather than create aggressive propulsion. That said, get the Nike Vomero Premium if you want the softest, most protective experience possible and don't mind an even taller, bulkier shoe. For more protective options, check out our recommendations for the best cushioned running shoes.
Within Mizuno's lineup, the Neo Vista 3 is the more protective option, while the Mizuno Neo Zen is lighter, unplated, and feels more natural for daily mileage. Compared with the Mizuno Neo Vista 2, this version fixes the overly long fit and feels slightly more controlled underfoot, though it remains heavy.

The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 and Mizuno Neo Vista 2 are two iterations of the same plated max-cushioned model. The Neo Vista 3 mainly improves the fit, which is now more secure and true-to-size. Get whichever is cheaper, though you should probably size down with the Neo Vista 2.
The Mizuno Neo Vista 3 and HOKA Skyward X 2 are both ultra-high stack, plated max-cushioned shoes, but they serve slightly different needs. Go for the HOKA if your long runs regularly extend beyond 20 km and you want the most protection late in the run. Its carbon plate feels a bit more propulsive, and its cushioning holds up better as the miles pile up. Get the Neo Vista 3 if you want a lighter, more stable option for daily training and shorter long runs. Its less-rigid plastic plate gives the ride a more natural feel, while still providing plenty of protection for most everyday runs.
The Mizuno Neo Zen 2 and Mizuno Neo Vista 3 serve different roles within a rotation. Get the Neo Zen 2 if you want a lighter, simpler, and more conventional daily trainer for shorter everyday runs. It's cushioned without feeling overly plush, so it sits lower and feels more stable underfoot. Choose the Neo Vista 3 if you regularly run long distances or often start runs on tired legs, such as during a brick workout after the bike. It offers much more cushioning, but it's heavier, taller, and less stable.
