The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is a carbon-plated super shoe built for marathon racing and long-distance speed. It sits above the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite as the brand's more extreme flagship racer, with a taller, more aggressive platform designed to deliver lots of protection and bounce over long efforts. Its PEBA-based Super Boom midsole and asymmetrical carbon plate, built on two different levels, give it a highly propulsive feel, but this isn't the most forgiving super shoe if you don't have the stabilizing strength to control the platform. The void under the midfoot, created by the empty space between the two plate layers that compress toward each other, can make the shoe feel less stable than it looks on paper when you land in that area, even though it can feel more controlled for forefoot strikers who load the platform more cleanly. That makes it especially appealing if you're a powerful runner who can take advantage of its maximal, propulsive design, but less ideal if you want a more approachable marathon racer.

Our Verdict

8.4
Half/Full Marathon Racing

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is a great choice for marathon and half-marathon racing, especially if you want a highly energetic, max-stacked racer that still feels light enough for long-distance efforts. Its massive stack, excellent bounce, and efficient forefoot rocker help it feel protective and propulsive when you're moving at race pace. That said, it isn't the most forgiving super shoe. Its midfoot void means it can feel wobbly if you land through the middle of the platform or don't have the stabilizing strength to control it late in a race, though forefoot strikers may find it more manageable.

Pros
  • Excellent bounce keeps the ride lively.

  • High stack of premium foam provides excellent protection.

  • Light build helps make the ride efficient.

  • Excellent heel cushioning softens landings.

Cons
  • Midfoot void can make landings feel wobbly.

8.5
5K/10K Racing

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is a very good option for 5K and 10K racing, but it feels more like a long-distance super shoe that can handle shorter races than a truly optimized short-distance racer. It has excellent bounce, a smooth forefoot rocker, and a stiff, propulsive platform that works well at faster paces. However, its forefoot isn't especially firm or snappy for this type of racing, and the shoe's tall, extreme build doesn't feel as nimble and light as the best options for shorter efforts.

Pros
  • Excellent bounce keeps the ride lively.

  • Light build helps make the ride efficient.

  • Forefoot rocker helps transitions feel smooth.

Cons
  • Forefoot is quite soft.

8.3
Long Run

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is very good for long runs, particularly faster long runs where its bounce, high stack, and smooth forefoot rocker can help you keep rolling efficiently. It offers plenty of protection under the heel and feels energetic enough to avoid the dull, heavy feel some max-cushioned shoes can have. However, its stability holds it back for relaxed mileage. The midfoot cutout and narrow heel can make the platform feel less secure if you land towards the back of the shoe, and the forefoot cushioning isn't outstanding over long efforts.

Pros
  • Excellent bounce keeps the ride lively.

  • High stack of premium foam provides excellent protection.

  • Light build helps make the ride efficient.

  • Forefoot rocker helps transitions feel smooth.

  • Excellent heel cushioning softens landings.

Cons
  • Midfoot void can make landings feel wobbly.

7.1
Daily Training

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra isn't a daily trainer, but it can work decently well for everyday runs. It has the cushioning, bounce, and light build to feel fun on some regular runs, but its carbon-plated, race-focused design is overkill for day-to-day mileage. The platform isn't especially stable, the midfoot void can feel awkward at easier paces, and the ride feels too aggressive if you just want something natural, forgiving, and dependable for everyday use.

Pros
  • Excellent heel cushioning softens landings.

Cons
  • Midfoot void can make landings feel wobbly.

  • Tall, race-focused platform feels awkward for daily mileage.

8.9
Energy Return

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra has amazing energy return, with a very lively feel under both the heel and forefoot. The foam rebounds strongly on landing and helps the shoe feel exciting when you're running fast. It's especially impressive up front, where the bouncy midsole and carbon-plated platform create a highly responsive toe-off for runners who can load the shoe well.

Pros
  • Excellent bounce keeps the ride lively.

Cons
8.4
Responsiveness

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra feels very responsive, especially once you pick up the pace and load the front of the shoe properly. Its bouncy foam returns a lot of energy underfoot, while the stiff, two-tier carbon plate gives the forefoot enough structure to snap back efficiently at toe-off. There is a noticeable rocker, even if it's not the most pronounced. Overall, the combination of excellent rebound and a fairly stiff rocker that holds its shape well gives it a lively and highly propulsive feel for racing and faster long runs.

Pros
  • Excellent bounce keeps the ride lively.

  • Light build helps make the ride efficient.

  • Forefoot rocker helps transitions feel smooth.

Cons
  • Not the most aggressive rocker.

8.4
Cushioning

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra has excellent cushioning overall, with a super protective heel and a well-cushioned forefoot. The rearfoot is especially strong, making heel landings feel well protected over longer efforts. However, the forefoot isn’t as plush as you might expect from such an extreme super shoe. The shoe doesn’t absorb impact as impressively at higher forces, so heavier or very fast runners may find the front of the shoe less protective than the huge stack suggests.

Pros
  • High stack of premium foam provides excellent protection.

  • Excellent heel cushioning softens landings.

Cons
  • Won't feel as plush at higher impact forces.

8.6
Stability

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra isn't very stable, even by super shoe standards. Its narrow heel and very soft foam already make it feel quite unstable, and the gap between the two levels of the carbon plate adds another weak point under the midfoot. When the shoe compresses in that area, the platform can feel like it sinks unevenly, making landings feel quite wobbly if you land primarily under the midfoot. That said, it can feel more stable if you land more on the heel or forefoot, but runners who need extra guidance or don't have strong stabilizing muscles may find it demanding, especially late in longer runs.

Pros
Cons
  • Midfoot void can make landings feel wobbly.

  • Heel is quite narrow and soft.

8.7
True To Size

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra fits true to size overall, so you can pick your usual size. Its length is spot-on, and the forefoot has a comfortably accommodating width and height for a racing shoe. The arch area is a bit tight, so runners with wider midfeet may notice some pressure there, especially later in races if your feet tend to swell a lot.

Pros
  • Length fits true to size.

  • Good amount of overall volume.

Cons
  • Fits a bit tight at the arch.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We tested the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra in men's U.S. size 9, as indicated on the label of our unit. The specific colorway shown here is Fluorescent Green. This model is available in multiple colorways with varying prices, including a "Shark" and a "The Forbidden City‌" edition. Availability is still variable depending on the region; in North America, it's possible to find the shoe through some online retailers, such as shopnings. Most of our review results are valid for all variants, though the design section applies only to the model we tested. We expect other size and gender variants to perform similarly.

    Popular Running Shoe Comparisons

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is a carbon-plated road racer built primarily for marathon racing. Chinese super shoes are often known for delivering strong price-to-performance value, but this model doesn't really fit that mold, as it's more of a performance-first flagship. Compared to other super shoes, it feels a bit like a softer adidas Adizero Prime X3 STRUNG, with a similarly wild personality and a unique plate setup. It also leans into the soft, bouncy feel of shoes like the ASICS METASPEED RAY, but its asymmetric, two-tier carbon plate gives it more structure underfoot than its soft foam would suggest. Its design is also as unusual and innovative as the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 3, with a banana-shaped profile, but it asks for the opposite kind of foot strike. The Mizuno rewarded runners who could land around its midfoot bulge, while the Li-Ning's midfoot void can feel punishing if you land directly through that area, making it better suited to runners who load primarily on the forefoot.

Within Li-Ning's lineup, it sits above the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite as the more aggressive flagship racing option. The Elite feels more forgiving and more broadly usable, while the Ultra is better suited to powerful runners who want a bouncier, more specialized race-day shoe for long-distance efforts. The Li-Ning Chaoying Pro is the brand's uptempo trainer for various paces, while the Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra takes the max-cushion spot in the rotation.

    Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite

    Track

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra and Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite are closely related carbon-plated racers that use the same Super Boom foam compound, but they feel quite different underfoot. The 6 Elite is the more cushioned and forgiving option, especially under the forefoot, making it better suited to long runs and runners who want a more approachable marathon racer. The 6 Ultra feels more specialized and more structured, largely because of its unusual asymmetric, two-tier carbon plate. Instead of using a simpler, flatter plate layout, the plate sits on two separate levels with a gap under the midfoot, which gives the shoe a very propulsive feel when you load the heel or forefoot cleanly.

    ASICS METASPEED RAY

    Track

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra and ASICS METASPEED RAY both sit in the soft, bouncy subcategory of super shoes, and neither is a particularly stable option. The ASICS is the lighter and softer-feeling shoe, with less dense foam and only a partial plate toward the forefoot, so it feels more airy, squishy, and explosive underfoot. The Li-Ning feels more structured and responsive in the traditional sense, thanks to its asymmetric, two-tier carbon plate. Instead of using a simpler flat plate, the Feidian's plate sits on two separate levels with a void under the midfoot. However, that can make the Li-Ning feel more punishing for midfoot strikers, while the ASICS feels more unstable because of its extreme softness and minimal structure.

    adidas Adizero Prime X3 STRUNG

    Track

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra and adidas Adizero Prime X3 STRUNG are both unconventional super shoes with unusual plate setups. The Li-Ning feels more like a pure race-day shoe: it's lighter, softer, and bouncier, with an asymmetric two-tier carbon plate that gives the platform structure while leaving a void under the midfoot. That makes it feel highly propulsive if you load the heel or forefoot cleanly, but less forgiving if you land through the middle of the shoe. The adidas is less nimble and not especially light, but it feels better suited to steady long runs, progression efforts, and fast cruising. It features a carbon plate paired with some carbon rods for added snap and structure.

    How We Test Running Shoes
    How We Test Running Shoes

We buy and test running shoes with a very data-oriented approach. While we're just getting started, our methodology already has dozens of tests to help you make the right purchasing decision for your needs. Not only do we use high-end equipment to gather objective data, but we also order multiple sizes of the same shoes so team members can log in miles. This real-world testing is conducted at various paces and conditions, across different types of workouts, to cover all the bases. This allows us to verify our results and ensure they align with what you might feel with a specific pair.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra is quite light for a super shoe, so it feels race-ready without carrying much extra bulk. That said, it isn't groundbreaking for the category, especially compared with the very lightest marathon racers such as the ASICS METASPEED RAY and the PUMA Fast-R NITRO Elite 3.

This model has a slightly tight arch fit, so runners with wider midfeet may notice some pressure through the middle of the shoe, especially if your foot tends to swell after a while. It isn't as narrow as the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite, but it still won't feel especially roomy in this area.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra doesn't have the most pronounced heel rocker, so it isn't especially helpful if you're a heel striker looking for a shoe that actively guides you from heel strike into midstance. The transition still works, but it isn't the smoothest in this part of the stride, especially compared with shoes that have a more aggressive heel rocker, such as the HOKA Cielo X1 3.0.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra has a nicely rockered forefoot that helps the shoe roll smoothly through toe-off. The rocker angle itself isn't extremely aggressive, but the early start and high toe spring give the front of the shoe a smooth, efficient feel when rolling through.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra delivers amazing bounce under the forefoot and is one of the bounciest shoes we've tested. That makes the front of the shoe feel highly responsive at toe-off, especially if you're a powerful runner who naturally loads the front of the platform well.

This model has excellent heel cushioning, giving the shoe plenty of impact protection for long races and faster long runs. It feels especially protective at low to moderate forces, so lighter or slower runners will get the plushest sensation from it. There's still plenty of protection for more powerful runners, but it won't feel quite as exceptional at very high forces.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra has great forefoot cushioning overall, but it isn't as plush up front as you might expect when looking at its extreme design. Compared with the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite, the reduced forefoot means there's simply less foam underfoot to help absorb impacts. Also, it feels relatively less cushioned at higher forces, so heavier or very fast runners may not find it especially plush.

    259.4 N/mm

The shoe feels very soft under the heel, especially under the void, which makes for a highly compressive feel when you load the rear of the shoe. This helps make landings feel forgiving, but it also contributes to the shoe's stability issues, as the platform can feel like it sinks and wobbles if you don't land with perfect form.

    432 N/mm

The forefoot feels quite soft, making for a forgiving sensation at toe-off rather than a harsh but snappy feel. This softness pairs well with the shoe's excellent bounce, but it also means the front of the shoe doesn't feel as firm and purely responsive as some short-distance racing shoes like the Mizuno Hyperwarp Pure.

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra has good forefoot cushioning for long runs, but it isn’t on par with the best super shoes on the market in this area. It stays fairly consistent as distance increase, which is a plus, but it doesn’t start from a very high level of impact absorption, so it feels much less protective for long distances than the Li-Ning Feidian 6 Elite or shoes like the ASICS METASPEED EDGE TOKYO.

    Forefoot Bending Energy Return
    78.9%

The Li-Ning Feidian 6 Ultra does an excellent job returning the energy stored when the forefoot bends. This helps the shoe feel springy through toe-off, as the platform snaps back strongly and gives a lot back.

    7.7
    Forefoot Bending Stiffness
    Forefoot Bending Stiffness
    17.2 N/mm
    Forefoot Bending Force
    281 N

The shoe’s forefoot is quite stiff, with plenty of structure from its unusually shaped carbon plate. Instead of sitting as one flat layer, the plate is built on two distinct levels. This helps reinforce the forefoot and gives the platform a more propulsive, guided feel at toe-off.
