The Beautyrest Harmony Lux is a mid-range hybrid mattress. It has a quilted top and layers of polyfoam and memory foam in its comfort layers, while two kinds of pocket coils make up its support layer. The manufacturer says that the sleep surface is made with up to 60 plastic bottles diverted from the ocean.
This mattress has a medium firmness, making it well-suited to average-sized to lighter back and stomach sleepers as well as average-sized to heavier side sleepers. Lighter side sleepers may find it too firm, while heavier stomach and back sleepers may find it too plush. With a moderately bouncy and responsive feel, this mattress makes it easy to shift sleeping positions. You sink fairly deep into this mattress, and it contours your body closely, so you feel cushioned and tightly hugged.
Our Verdict
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux provides an excellent sleeping experience. It offers good cooling, keeping you very cool while you fall asleep. It collects more heat later in the night, but it's not enough to overheat you, even if you sleep hot. This mattress has fantastic edge support, giving you more room to use comfortably since you can sleep right near the sides without worrying about slipping off. It also has great motion isolation, which is especially important if you sleep with a partner or have a pet that likes to jump onto the bed late at night. When your sleeping partner rolls over, you feel it mainly in the lumbar region and less so near your head and feet. The motion dissipates quickly, so it's less likely to disturb or wake you. Shifting sleeping positions is easy, too, thanks to the mattress's fantastic responsiveness.
Fantastic responsiveness makes it easy to switch sleeping positions.
Superb edge support.
Great motion isolation and dissipation.
Good cooling performance.
Well-suited to average to lighter back and stomach sleepers and average to heavier side sleepers.
None of the foam used is good quality, which can cause indentations and sagging.
Not ideal for lighter side sleepers or heavier stomach and back sleepers.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux offers good cooling performance. It dissipates more heat at the beginning of the night, keeping you cool while you fall asleep. While it collects a bit more heat throughout the night, it's not enough to overheat you, even if you sleep hot. That said, if cooling is a top priority for you, whether you persistently sleep very hot or live in a hot climate, you may want something more cooling.
Good cooling performance.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has impressive motion dissipation. You only feel larger movements, like when your partner changes sleeping positions or a pet jumps on the bed, but mainly nearby and less so throughout the rest of the mattress. The motion also dissipates quickly, so it's not likely to bother or wake you up.
Great motion isolation and dissipation.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has superb edge support. The sides are reinforced with firm polyfoam that doesn't compress easily, and while this element isn't included in the pillowtop, you can still sit or sleep near the edge without feeling at risk of falling off. This support makes it easy to get in and out of bed, which is especially important if you have mobility issues.
Superb edge support.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux delivers fantastic responsiveness. It bounces back extremely fast after being compressed, adapting to your movements so it's easy to shift sleeping positions. You don't feel constrained or 'stuck in place.'
Fantastic responsiveness makes it easy to switch sleeping positions.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux isn't a durable mattress. None of the foam layers is dense enough to be considered good-quality. As a result, the mattress will begin to sag and lose its shape faster than models made with better-quality foam.
None of the foam used is good quality, which can cause indentations and sagging.

Differences Between Sizes And Variants
Within the Harmony Lux line, you find two categories: Anchor Island and Coral Island. According to the manufacturer, Coral Island is the more premium line, featuring more advanced pressure relief and proprietary cooling technologies. The Coral Island collection includes: the Coral Island Plush Pillow Top, Coral Island Medium, Coral Island Firm Pillow Top, and Coral Island Extra Firm. The Anchor Island collection includes: the Anchor Island Plush Pillow Top, Anchor Island Plush, Anchor Island Medium Pillow Top, and Anchor Island Firm. We tested the Queen-sized Beautyrest Harmony Lux Anchor Island Medium Pillow Top, and our results are only valid for that variant. Unusually, this mattress didn't come with an informational tag, and we're unable to say whether another unit would include one, as it may have been torn off during shipping or not included as a manufacturer error.
If you come across another variant or have experience with a variant that performs differently, let us know in the comments.

Beautyrest is part of Serta Simmons Bedding, North America's largest mattress manufacturer and distributor. In addition to Beautyrest, Serta, Tuft & Needle, and BeautySleep are their brands. Beautyrest offers mattresses at a wide range of prices and firmness levels.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux delivers an excellent overall performance, even outperforming more expensive options like the Beautyrest Black. Compared to other hybrids, like the Beautyrest Silver BRS900, you feel like you're sleeping more 'in' than on top of the mattress. You sink quite far into the mattress while it contours your body closely, so you feel cradled and pretty tightly hugged. While it can't compete with the Casper Snow (Canadian Version) when it comes to cooling, it keeps you quite cool while you're falling asleep and keeps even hot sleepers from overheating throughout the night.

The Beautyrest Harmony Lux is a better mattress than the Nectar Classic Hybrid for most people. It's a much more responsive option, with better edge support. Shifting sleeping positions, getting in and out of bed, and sleeping near the edge of the mattress are all easier and more comfortable on the Beautyrest. It's also slightly more cooling, though they are more evenly matched in this regard—the Beautyrest keeps you cooler as you fall asleep, but the Nectar transfers more heat throughout the rest of the night. The Nectar also offers better motion isolation, which is important if you or your sleeping partner toss and turn.
The Boring Mattress and the Beautyrest Harmony Lux seem well matched, but the Boring has an advantage that makes it the better choice for most users. That advantage is in the density of the foam, which correlates to quality and durability. The Beautyrest uses low-quality foam throughout the mattress, making premature indentations and sagging very likely. Conversely, the Boring uses good and high-quality foam, which extends the life of the mattress overall. So, if durability is a consideration, the Boring is the better choice. If you're not concerned about longevity, either mattress should suit you. The Boring has a slight advantage in cooling and motion dissipation, while the Beautyrest has better edge support, but there's not a huge difference in any of these areas.

We've recently started testing mattresses. We use objective data and repeatable testing for key characteristics like firmness, cooling, and motion isolation, to ensure each mattress gets the same treatment. Since we buy all of our mattresses, we can tear them down layer by layer and isolate the mechanical properties of every component: quilted tops, foams, coils, and any special materials. Our approach gives us unprecedented insight into how each product design decision contributes to a mattress's overall performance and feel, and allows us to tailor our results to different body types and sleeping positions.
Test Results

With a medium firmness, the Beautyrest Harmony Lux is a good fit for average-sized back and stomach sleepers and heavier side sleepers. Lighter side sleepers may prefer something softer, while heavier back and stomach sleepers may find it too soft and want a firmer option.
This moderately bouncy mattress makes it fairly easy to change sleeping positions and move around. While it doesn't quite match the springy sensation of a classic innerspring mattress, it doesn't feel lifeless or static like some all-foam and memory foam mattresses.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux is superbly responsive. It recovers its shape very quickly, adapting to your movements and making it easy to move around and change sleeping positions.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has great motion isolation, so you only feel larger movements. When your partner tosses and turns, you feel it in the lumbar region and a little less at the head and feet. The motion dissipates quickly, making it less likely to wake you up.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has fantastic edge support. Polyfoam reinforces the border, offering support when sitting or sleeping near the sides. Since the pillowtop doesn't include this edge component, it has more of an incline, but you still don't feel like you might slip off. It's also easy to push off the sides of the mattress to get out of bed, which is especially important for people with mobility issues.
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux delivers good cooling performance. It dissipates a lot of heat during the first hour of the night, so you stay quite cool as you fall asleep. After that, however, it transfers heat away from your body more slowly. While it doesn't leave you overheated, it tends to maintain a fairly neutral temperature. This will be sufficient to keep even hot sleepers comfortable, but if you often wake up overheated, live in a very hot climate, or if cooling is your top priority, you may want something with a stronger cooling effect.
While Beautyrest states that the cover of this mattress is made with recycled plastic diverted from the ocean, our unit didn't come with a tag, so we can't confirm the material makeup of the cover. It's not removable or machine-washable.
It has four layers of foam above its pocket spring support layer. The quilted top uses a combination of fiber fill and polyfoam, which gives the top of the mattress a cushy feel. The upper comfort layer is polyfoam, providing pressure relief and contouring. Below that is a layer of memory foam, but this layer is so thin that it probably doesn't change the way the mattress feels. The transition foam is polyfoam, which again increases the pressure relief and contouring of the mattress.
None of the foam used is dense enough to be considered good quality. This can impact durability and cause indentations and sagging. Neither polyfoam layer in the quilted top is of good quality (both have a low density of 18 kg/m³). The polyfoam and memory foam in the comfort and transition layers don't reach the standard for good quality either. If you're looking for a mattress with good-quality foam, you may be interested in the Boring Mattress.
This mattress has 5.9 inches (15 cm) of foam above its pocket coil support system. The quilted top is 2.8 inches (7 cm) and gives the mattress's surface some cushioning. Below that, the polyfoam upper comfort layer is 1.9 inches (4.9 cm), which helps relieve pressure and support the parts of your body that don't sink very far into the mattress. Its lower comfort layer is memory foam, but at 0.4 inches (1 cm) it's so thin that it feels more like polyfoam and is unlikely to significantly affect the mattress's feel. The transition layer is 0.8 inches (2.1 cm) and helps prevent you from sinking through to the spring layer below.
Pocket coils make up the support layer of this mattress. Since they're individually wrapped in fabric, they move independently of one another, offering better contouring and motion isolation than continuous coils. This layer, which provides support for the heavier parts of your body, contains alternating rows of lighter 14-gauge springs and stiffer, double-stranded 11-gauge springs that Beautyrest calls T2 Pocketed Coil Technology. Since these two types of springs are used in conjunction throughout the mattress, you don't feel the difference between them. Instead, this is likely a cost-saving measure.
The quilted top contains two layers of foam. Since there's typically only one layer of foam in this portion of a mattress, we tested these layers together. They're very soft, adding some cushion that allows you to sink into the mattress. The polyfoam upper comfort foam has a medium firmness, which helps relieve pressure, while the thin layer of memory foam in the lower comfort layer is fairly soft, offering increased contouring. The transition foam is medium firm, which adds support and ensures you don't sink through to the support layer if you compress the comfort foam above.
The spring layer is the firmest layer of the mattress. The alternating rows of regular 14-gauge and double-stranded 11-gauge springs work together to support the heavier parts of your body. While the spring layer is the firmest in the mattress, the coils are relatively soft compared to those in other hybrid mattresses, like the Stearns & Foster Lux Estate, especially in the lumbar region. This comparative softness allows the springs to compress more easily and help contour your lumbar, hips, or shoulders, depending on your sleep position. Overall, this layer and the softer foam layers create a medium feel.
The foam used is all pretty resilient, giving the mattress a responsive feel that makes it easier to shift sleeping positions or move around on it. The first layer of foam in the quilted top is fairly resilient, but the second layer down is even more so. It has a 45% resilience, which you can see in this video of the test. The polyfoam in the upper comfort layer is the most resilient, or bouncy, while the thin layer of memory foam below has lower resilience, though it's still fairly resilient for memory foam. This configuration helps avoid the sluggish feeling of memory foam. The transition layer is also fairly resilient. The combination of resilient foam layers and pocket springs gives this mattress its moderate bounciness.
