The XGIMI TITAN Noir is a triple laser DLP projector that's primarily designed for home theaters. It features a pixel-shifted 4k resolution and sits below the XGIMI TITAN Noir Pro in the brand's TITAN Noir lineup. It offers a wide variety of gaming features, including 4k @ 60Hz, 1080p @ 240Hz, VRR to reduce screen tearing, and low input lag. It also has three HDMI 2.1 ports for connecting a variety of devices, though it doesn't have a built-in smart OS. For setup, it has a motorized zoom lens and lens shift, as well as a wide range of screen adaptation features like autofocus, keystone correction, and obstacle avoidance. The 5-step manual iris lets you adjust the balance between black levels and brightness, and it can project an image anywhere from 40 to 300 inches.

Our Verdict

0.0
Home Theater

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is excellent for a home theater. It has outstanding contrast that's also consistent, so the image has solid depth in all scenes. It also has great brightness that produces an impressive image in a dark room. It removes judder from most streaming devices, leading to smooth motion. However, motion looks choppy when watching 25p international content from a device that outputs a 60Hz signal. Its fantastic color volume makes colors look well-saturated in all movies and shows. It has good color accuracy out of the box, but whites do look too cool. However, this can be improved with calibration. The projector's 'Anti-RBE' feature does an excellent job of keeping the rainbow effect to a minimum, and since it has a quiet fan, you aren't distracted during quieter scenes. It has a 'Dynamic Black Level Enhancement' feature to deepen blacks, but it has an issue that causes color to shift and makes the screen turn off during very dark scenes.

Pros
  • Colors are incredibly rich and vibrant.

  • Outstanding contrast leads to solid depth in all scenes.

  • Removes judder from almost all external sources.

  • Does an excellent job of minimizing the rainbow effect.

  • The projector's fan operates quietly.

Cons
  • No built-in OS means you need an external streaming device.

  • Dynamic contrast feature has issues in very dark scenes.

Outdoors

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is okay for outdoor use. Its great brightness means you can use it at night with some patio lanterns without the image looking washed out. It's quite heavy and bulky, though, and the lack of a built-in battery makes moving it outdoors somewhat inconvenient. It also doesn't have a lens cover or a carrying handle on the projector itself, although the included hard-shell case helps protect it when transporting it. Once you have it outside, setup is relatively easy thanks to its motorized zoom lens and lens shift. It also has plenty of screen adaptation features, including automatic screen fit and keystone correction, so you don't need to position it perfectly in front of the surface you're projecting onto.

Pros
  • Great setup flexibility and a ton of screen adaptation features make it easy to set up.

  • Great brightness makes the image looks punchy

Cons
  • Bulky and heavy design makes it inconvenient to carry around.

  • No built-in battery.

  • No built-in OS means you need an external streaming device.

Bedroom

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is decent for use in a bedroom. Its biggest drawback is its bulky and heavy design, which makes it inconvenient to move between your living room and bedroom. However, it has plenty of screen adaptation features, including auto focus, obstacle avoidance, and keystone correction. It also has a motorized zoom lens and lens shift, making it easy to set up fairly quickly. Its fan runs quietly, so you can watch a show or movie at a low volume without being distracted by the projector's noise.

Pros
  • Great setup flexibility and a ton of screen adaptation features make it easy to set up.

  • The projector's fan operates quietly.

Cons
  • Bulky and heavy design makes it inconvenient to carry around.

  • No built-in OS means you need an external streaming device.

Gaming

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is incredible for gaming. It supports 4k @ 60Hz and up to 1080p @ 240Hz on all three HDMI 2.1 ports, giving you the choice between the sharpest image possible or smoother, clearer motion. Its great brightness, outstanding contrast, and punchy colors also combine to produce an excellent-looking image in games. It supports VRR as well, which helps reduce screen tearing during gameplay.

Pros
  • Colors are incredibly rich and vibrant.

  • Outstanding contrast leads to solid depth in all scenes.

  • Great brightness makes the image looks punchy

  • Supports 4k @ 60Hz and 1080p @ 240Hz.

  • Supports VRR, ALLM, and has very low input lag.

Cons
0.0
Brightness

The XGIMI TITAN Noir has great brightness. The image doesn't look dim at all in a dark room, and it's even bright enough to avoid looking washed out in a room with some lights on, but it's still not suitable for very bright rooms during the day. Brightness is also mostly uniform across the screen, so it avoids any noticeable vignetting.

Pros
  • Great brightness makes the image looks punchy

Cons
0.0
Contrast

The XGIMI TITAN Noir has outstanding contrast. Blacks look very deep in dark scenes, so the image doesn't appear washed out. It also does an excellent job of maintaining deep blacks in bright scenes, which gives the image a good sense of depth. You can make blacks even deeper with the 'Dynamic Black Level Enhancement' setting, but it has issues that can cause the screen to turn off and colors to shift in very dark scenes.

Pros
  • Outstanding contrast leads to solid depth in all scenes.

Cons
  • Dynamic contrast feature has issues in very dark scenes.

0.0
Portability

The XGIMI TITAN Noir has poor portability. It's a large home theater projector that's also quite heavy, so it's not really designed to be moved around frequently. That said, it comes with a hard-shell carrying case if you need to take it somewhere. Fortunately, setup is easy thanks to its motorized zoom lens, lens shift, and wide range of screen adaptation features, so you don't need to position it perfectly with the screen you're projecting onto. You'll just need access to a power source, as it doesn't have a built-in battery.

Pros
  • Great setup flexibility and a ton of screen adaptation features make it easy to set up.

Cons
  • Bulky and heavy design makes it inconvenient to carry around.

  • No built-in battery.

  • No built-in OS means you need an external streaming device.

0.0
Color

The XGIMI TITAN Noir has great overall color performance. Its color volume is fantastic, so colors look incredibly rich and vibrant whether you're playing video games or watching content. Color accuracy is also good enough out of the box to satisfy most people, although whites have a noticeably cool tint. If that bothers you, the projector can be calibrated to achieve fantastic accuracy that stays very close to the content creator's intent.

Pros
  • Colors are incredibly rich and vibrant.

Cons
  • Whites look cooler than intended out of the box.

0.0
Gaming Responsiveness

The XGIMI TITAN Noir has outstanding responsiveness in its dedicated gaming mode. Its input lag is very low across all refresh rates, so games feel responsive whether you're playing a competitive shooter like Battlefield on PC or a single-player RPG like Oblivion on console. All three of its HDMI 2.1 ports support 4k @ 60Hz, while dropping the resolution to 1080p lets you game at up to 240Hz. It also uses DLP imaging technology, so there's no excessive motion blur, and VRR helps reduce screen tearing during gameplay.

Pros
  • Supports 4k @ 60Hz and 1080p @ 240Hz.

  • Supports VRR, ALLM, and has very low input lag.

  • No excessive motion blur.

    Popular Projector Comparisons

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is an amazing home theater projector. Although it's not as bright as the XGIMI TITAN Noir Max, it's certainly not a dim projector, and it still provides excellent image quality. It has outstanding contrast and incredibly vibrant colors, so it looks fantastic whether you're watching movies and shows or playing video games in a dark room. You can even use it in a room with a few lights on, and it avoids looking washed out. It's not the most portable projector, but it does come with a hard-shell case that makes it fairly easy to carry around. It also has a ton of screen adaptation features, lens shifting, and a motorized zoom lens, which makes setup pretty simple. It has three HDMI 2.1 ports, so you have space to plug in consoles and other devices, and it's one of the best projectors you can buy for gaming.

It's a bit disappointing that the 'Dynamic Black Level Enhancement' has issues that cause colors to shift and the screen to turn off during very dark scenes, since the feature otherwise performs well. Unlike the original XGIMI TITAN, it doesn't have a built-in smart OS. It's also dimmer than that model, but it still provides noticeably better image quality and performance overall. It's priced very similarly to the Valerion VisionMaster Max and the Hisense PX4-PRO, which both have a built-in smart OS, but it outperforms both of them in almost every way. Almost anyone is better off choosing the TITAN Noir and pairing it with an external streaming device instead.

    XGIMI TITAN

    Track

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is better than the original XGIMI TITAN. The Noir has better contrast and color volume, so blacks are deeper and colors are more vibrant. Colors are also more accurate on the Noir out of the box; it removes judder from more external sources, and it does a superior job of avoiding the rainbow effect. The Noir also offers better gaming performance thanks to its VRR support and much lower input lag. On the other hand, the original TITAN is brighter, so it's a bit more suitable for well-lit spaces.

    XGIMI TITAN Noir Max

    Track

The XGIMI TITAN Noir Max and the XGIMI TITAN Noir are similar overall. However, the Noir Max is noticeably brighter, so it provides a punchier image in a dark room and can handle more glare in a room with ambient lighting. The Noir Max also has the edge when it comes to contrast and out-of-the-box color accuracy, and its fan is a bit quieter.

    Valerion VisionMaster Max

    Track

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is better than the Valerion VisionMaster Max overall. The XGIMI displays deeper blacks thanks to its higher contrast ratio, making it look better in a dark room. The Valerion is limited to vertical lens shift, while the XGIMI has both vertical and horizontal lens shift, making it easier to set up. The XGIMI offers significantly lower input lag and supports VRR, making it better for gamers, and its additional HDMI 2.1 port gives you more flexibility with your devices. However, the XGIMI doesn't have a built-in smart OS, while the Valerion runs Google TV, so the latter doesn't require an external streaming device.

    Hisense PX4-PRO

    Track

The XGIMI TITAN Noir is better than the Hisense PX4-PRO. The XGIMI has superior contrast, so it displays deeper blacks. On top of that, colors are much more accurate on the XGIMI out of the box, and it's a bit brighter. The XGIMI is also easier to set up thanks to its lens shift, motorized zoom lens, and wide array of screen adaptation tools. The Hisense has a built-in smart OS, but the interface runs pretty slowly, and almost anyone is better off getting the XGIMI and pairing it with a streaming device.

    How We Test Projectors
    How We Test Projectors

We've independently bought and tested over 80 projectors and published detailed results for each, so you can decide which one to buy. These have all been tested under the same standardized methodology, allowing you to compare them side by side. We still have all these projects in our lab, so we can continually go back and compare them to ensure our reviews are still accurate. All our test methodologies are also public on our website, so you can validate the results yourself.
