Our Verdict
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is mediocre for movies, at least when compared to bigger projectors. Like most portable units, it's very dim and only looks good in the darkest of rooms. Thankfully, it does have good contrast and a wide color gamut, so it provides a good experience once you do dim those lights. Unfortunately, it's quite inaccurate out of the box, so accuracy purists will want to calibrate it.
Small and portable, with a ton of smart features.
Good contrast for deep blacks in most scenes.
Wide color gamut.
Visibly raised blacks in the darkest scenes.
Dim projector.
Inaccurate out of the box.
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is a poor choice for gaming due to its awful input lag; it's just not responsive enough. Thankfully, it does look okay in a dark room due to its wide color gamut and good contrast, so while you might not want to game on it, you could watch some livestreams.

Dim projector.
Awful input lag; projector just isn't responsive enough for gaming.
Inaccurate out of the box.
Like most small portable units, the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is dim. It's quite uniform, even though parts of the image have a pink hue. Overall, you definitely want to turn off the lights to get the most out of this projector.
Dim projector.
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser's contrast is good, especially in brighter scenes, where it's capable of keeping good separation between bright and dark elements. It stumbles in very dark scenes, as it has visibly raised blacks, but overall, it does perform well.
Good contrast for deep blacks in most scenes.
Visibly raised blacks in the darkest scenes.

Popular Projector Comparisons
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is a good option if you're looking for a small portable projector with a battery. It's dim, but so is every other product in its class. What it does have, however, is good contrast, a wide color gamut, and a versatile gimbal stand, making it stand out if you're thinking of using it in a completely dark room. If you're looking at alternatives, the XGIMI Halo+ is brighter, but its contrast isn't quite as good, making it better suited for outdoor use where you can't fully control the lighting. Conversely, if you're in an entirely dark room and have access to an outlet or a powerful power bank, the more expensive LG CineBeam Q delivers even better contrast than the MoGo 4 Laser. Overall, though, the MoGo 4 Laser is a good product in its category and is worth considering if you're shopping for an ultra-portable projector.

The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is a clear improvement over the XGIMI MoGo 4 in almost every way: it's brighter, is more accurate, has better contrast, and has a wider color gamut. The only time where the base MoGo 4 has the edge is when gaming, as its input lag is noticeably quicker than the MoGo 4 Laser's.
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is better than the Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser. The XGIMI has much better contrast with a wider color gamut, so it looks much more striking in a fully dark room than the Anker. Neither unit is good for gaming, but between the two the Anker is better due to accepting a wider range of resolutions, with much lower input lag than the XGIMI.
The LG CineBeam Q is better than the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser. The LG is brighter and has better contrast, so it looks better in any room. Still, the XGIMI has some advantages. It has an integrated battery, making it easier to carry around with you. It's also much quieter under load, which is important for those of you hoping to use the projector in a quiet bedroom.
The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser is better than the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro. The MoGo 4 Laser is brighter, has better contrast, and has a wider color gamut, delivering better image quality in any lighting conditions. If you're gaming, neither one is good, but the MoGo 3 Pro is more responsive, giving it the edge.
