Our Laptop 0.9.1 Test Bench changes the scoring spline used for the Color Accuracy test to provide a more granular score distribution.
What's Changed?
- Adjusted the scoring curve for display color accuracy.
- Reduced the likelihood of displays receiving a 10/10 unless they deliver near-perfect color accuracy.
- No changes were made to the underlying test methodology.
Display Out-Of-The-Box Color Accuracy Scoring Adjustment
We've adjusted the scoring curve for display color accuracy to allow for more granular score distribution. This change better differentiates between good and exceptional results and makes it less likely that displays will receive a perfect score unless they genuinely offer perfect color accuracy.
This update doesn't affect how we test display color accuracy; it only affects how the measured results are translated into a score. Overall, this change makes the scoring more representative of meaningful performance differences, especially among higher-end displays, while ensuring that as we approach that 10/10 score, the values represent nearly perfect display color accuracy.
As you can see in the example above with the Apple MacBook Pro (M4, 2024), the actual test results for the laptop didn't change; only the scores did. While the screen is incredibly accurate, the previous score of a 10 indicates perfection with no room for improvement. The updated score better reflects real-world performance and improves the test's comparability and longevity.
