Style

  • Removed the score.

SDR Brightness

  • Renamed 'SDR Peak Brightness' to 'SDR Brightness'.
  • Removed the 'SDR' from the brightness subtests' names.
  • Renamed 'SDR ABL' to 'Automatic Brightness Limiting (ABL)'.

New Local Dimming Video (Real Content)

  • Added a new local dimming video to both the "local dimming" box and the "local dimming in game mode" box.
  • The purpose of this video is to show how the local dimming looks in day-to-day use.

Local Dimming in Game Mode

  • Added a 'Local Dimming in Game Mode' box; this uses the same general methodology as our existing 'Local Dimming' tests, but uses our recommended gaming settings instead of our normal settings.

HDR Brightness

  • Renamed 'HDR Peak Brightness' to 'HDR Brightness'.
  • Moved the HDR EOTF plot from the 'Color Gamut' box to the 'HDR Brightness' box.
  • Improved the axis labels of the HDR EOTF plot.
  • Removed the 'HDR' from the brightness subtests' names.
  • Renamed 'HDR Real Scene Peak Brightness' to 'Real Scene Highlight'.

Post Calibration

  • Removed the 'Auto-Calibration Function' test; it was 'Undetermined' for about half the year because Calman didn't release their list of supported TV models until several months into the year.

Color Gamut

  • Moved the HDR EOTF plot from the 'Color Gamut' box to the 'HDR Brightness' box.
  • Moved the 'HDR EOTF in Game Mode' plot from the 'Color Gamut' box to the 'HDR Brightness in Game Mode' box.

Input lag

  • Moved 'Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)' from the 'Input Lag' box to the 'Advanced Console Compatibility' box.
  • Changed the scoring curve that translates the input lag results into scores.
  • Added '4k @ 120 Hz' to the box scoring with low weight.

Advanced Console Compatibility

  • Added an 'Advanced Console Compatibility' box, in the Inputs section, testing the TV's compatibility with the new PS5 and Xbox Series X's advanced features.
  • Moved 'Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)' from the 'Input Lag' box to the 'Advanced Console Compatibility' box.

Inputs Specifications

  • Removed the '3D' test, because we haven't tested a 3D TV since 2016.

Usage ratings

  • Replaced 'Local Dimming' with 'Local Dimming in Game Mode' in the 'Video Games' and 'HDR Gaming' usages.
  • Replaced 'HDR Peak Brightness' with 'HDR Brightness in Game Mode' in the 'HDR Gaming' usage.
  • Added some of the new 'Advanced Console Compatibility' tests to the 'Video Games' and 'HDR Gaming' usages.
