The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is an entry-level 1440p gaming monitor with a 27-inch screen and 300Hz refresh rate. It uses a VA panel with quantum dot technology and Mini LED backlighting that has 1,152 dimming zones. It competes against other low-cost Mini LED options, like the AOC Q27G3XMN and the KOORUI S2721PM, and it sits below the higher-resolution MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M. It has VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification for high brightness levels, and it's advertised for expansive gamut coverage in wide color spaces, like Adobe RGB and DCI-P3. It includes typical gaming features, like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, VRR support, Console Mode to take advantage of modern consoles, and it has various AI Crosshair, AI Vision, and Aspect Ratio options. It's rather barebones besides that, as it doesn't have a USB hub, and it's limited to DisplayPort 1.4 bandwidth.

Our Verdict

0.0
PC Gaming

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is great for PC gaming. Its 300Hz refresh rate is high enough even for competitive gaming, offering a smooth feel, and its low input lag means your inputs are responsive. It also has a fast response time for gaming and minimal blur, but there's black smearing with fast-moving objects in dark scenes. While it supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and all common VRR formats, there's distracting VRR flicker with fluctuating frame rates in dark scenes. On the plus side, it's an excellent choice for HDR gaming because it displays deep blacks, especially when you use its Mini LED local dimming feature, alongside a wide range of vivid colors. While highlights pop, there's some haloing around them against dark backgrounds.

Pros
  • Fast 300Hz refresh rate.

  • Quick response time with most refresh rates.

  • Deep blacks with and without local dimming.

  • Wide range of colors in SDR and HDR.

  • Bright highlights that pop.

  • Low input lag.

Cons
  • Black smearing in dark content.

  • Some haloing around bright objects.

  • Distracting VRR flicker in dark content.

Console Gaming

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is excellent for console gaming. Thanks to its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, it supports all common signals from modern gaming consoles, including downscaled 4k @ 120Hz. Gaming feels responsive thanks to its low input lag, and it has good motion handling, but there's black smearing with fast-moving objects in dark scenes. One of its bigger strengths is its HDR picture quality, as it displays deep blacks with highlights that pop, but there's haloing around bright objects against dark backgrounds. It also displays a wide range of vivid colors, but it doesn't support Dolby Vision with an Xbox.

Pros
  • Quick response time with most refresh rates.

  • Deep blacks with and without local dimming.

  • Wide range of colors in SDR and HDR.

  • Bright highlights that pop.

  • Low input lag.

  • HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for full console support.

Cons
  • Black smearing in dark content.

  • Some haloing around bright objects.

  • No Dolby Vision with an Xbox.

Office

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is good for office use. Text looks sharp thanks to its 1440p resolution, and it's good to use in well-lit office spaces as it gets very bright. However, it struggles to properly handle glare if you have it in front of a bright lamp or sunny window. It also comes with a very ergonomic stand that's easy to adjust, but with a narrow viewing angle, the image looks washed when viewing from the sides. It also lacks any productivity features, like a USB hub.

Pros
  • Sharp text and image clarity.

  • Ergonomic stand.

  • Fights glare well in most bright rooms.

Cons
  • No USB hub or work-focused features.

  • Narrow viewing angle.

  • Visibility is an issue in front of windows.

Editing

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is great for content creation. It's accurate out of the box thanks to its dedicated sRGB mode, but it comes with a warm tint that you would have to fix with a full calibration. It's also a great choice for editing content in HDR thanks to its deep blacks, especially if you use its local dimming feature, wide range of vivid colors, and bright highlights, but it has haloing around objects against dark backgrounds. While it has sharp image clarity, there are a few downsides to using it for editing. Its narrow viewing angle means the image looks washed out off-angle, and it doesn't have any productivity perks, like a USB hub.

Pros
  • Deep blacks with and without local dimming.

  • Wide range of colors in SDR and HDR.

  • Bright highlights that pop.

  • Sharp text and image clarity.

  • Ergonomic stand.

  • Very accurate sRGB mode.

Cons
  • Some haloing around bright objects.

  • No USB hub or work-focused features.

  • Narrow viewing angle.

  • Warm tint without any calibration.

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV has fantastic brightness. It fights glare well in most environments, but it gets its brightest if you don't use local dimming. Luckily, even with local dimming it makes highlights pop in HDR.

Pros
  • Bright highlights that pop.

  • Fights glare well in most bright rooms.

Cons
  • Using local dimming makes the screen dimmer.

Cons
  • Black smearing in dark content.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We bought and tested the 27-inch MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV, which is the only size available, so the results are only valid for this model. It sits below the MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M, which has a higher resolution, and there are similarly-named models in MSI's lineup, like the MSI MAG 274QPF E20 and the MSI MAG 274QPF X32, but they're different monitors with completely different specs.

Model Size Panel Type Resolution Refresh Rate
    MAG 274QPF X30MV 27" VA (Mini LED) 1440p 300Hz

Our unit's label indicates it was manufactured in December 2025 in China. We tested it with firmware FW.121, and despite not having any USB ports, you can still update the firmware over DisplayPort.

    Popular Monitor Comparisons

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV is an entry-level 1440p Mini LED gaming monitor that punches above its weight when comparing its price and performance. Even with a high native contrast ratio, its effective local dimming feature helps deepen blacks alongside bright highlights for an impactful viewing or gaming experience in HDR. It also gets really bright, so it fights glare well, and while it has some downsides, like haloing around bright objects, it has fantastic overall picture quality for a budget-friendly display.

An advantage of getting this over the competition is that it supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and has a fast 300Hz refresh rate, leading to a smooth gaming feel. This makes it the better choice than the AOC Q27G3XMN and the AOC Q27G40XMN if you want such a high refresh rate for gaming. Unfortunately, it usually costs more than those AOC monitors, so you may want to avoid getting this monitor if it's out of your price range. A downside is that its VA panel has black smearing and VRR flicker in dark scenes, which makes the KOORUI S2721PM a good alternative if you want to avoid those issues. However, the KOORUI has a lower contrast ratio, so the MSI still has the advantage in terms of picture quality. Overall, the MSI is one of the best budget gaming monitors you can get.

Also see our recommendations for the best gaming monitors under $300, the best Mini LED monitors, and the best budget and cheap gaming monitors.

    AOC Q27G3XMN

    Track

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV and the AOC Q27G3XMN are competing 1440p Mini LED gaming monitors. They have many similarities, as they each have a VA panel, but there are some differences in performance. For example, the MSI gets brighter, making it the better choice for use in well-lit rooms. The MSI also has a faster 300Hz refresh rate, and it supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, which the AOC doesn't. On the other hand, the AOC has a faster overall response time, leading to better motion handling.

    AOC Q27G40XMN

    Track

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV and the AOC Q27G40XMN are competing 1440p Mini LED gaming monitors. They have many similarities, as they each have a VA panel, but there are some differences in performance. For example, the MSI gets a bit brighter, making it the better choice for use in well-lit rooms. The MSI also has a faster 300Hz refresh rate, it supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, which the AOC doesn't, and it has a more ergonomic stand. On the other hand, the AOC has a faster overall response time, leading to better motion handling.

    MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M

    Track

The MSI MPG 274URDFW E16M is higher-end than the MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV. The main difference is that the 274URDFW has a higher 4k resolution for sharper and more detailed images. While it has a native 160Hz refresh rate with this 4k resolution, it has a dual-mode feature to boost it to 320Hz with a lower 1080p resolution. The 274URDFW E16M is also more well-rounded in terms of features because it has a USB hub and a KVM switch. Even though the 274QPF has a lower max refresh rate, its max of 300Hz is still fast enough for most gamers. The 274QPF also has the advantage in terms of picture quality because it has a higher native contrast ratio for deeper blacks, with a more effective local dimming feature that's better at improving picture quality in any type of content.

    KOORUI S2721PM

    Track

The MSI MAG 274QPF X30MV and the KOORUI S2721PM are both entry-level 1440p, Mini LED gaming monitors. They use different panel types, so there are a few differences due to that. The VA panel of the MSI has a higher native contrast ratio for deeper blacks, and it includes a more effective local dimming feature that's better at improving picture quality. On the other hand, the KOORUI has an IPS panel with a wider viewing angle, so the image remains consistent when viewed from the sides. There are a few differences in gaming, too, as the higher refresh rate of the MSI offers a smoother feel, but while it has a faster overall response time, it has smearing with fast-moving objects in dark scenes.

    How We Test Monitors
    How We Test Monitors

We buy and test more than 30 monitors each year, all of which we purchase ourselves, without cherry-picked units or samples. We put a lot into each unbiased, straight-to-the-point review, and there's a whole process from purchasing to publishing, involving multiple teams and people. We do more than just use the monitor for a week; we use specialized, custom tools to measure various aspects and deliver objective, data-driven results. We also consider multiple factors before making any recommendations, including the monitor's cost, its performance compared to the competition, and whether it's easy to find.
