The Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S is a premium 4k, 240Hz QD-OLED gaming monitor. It's a replacement of the older Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SD S32DG80 and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G81SF S27FG810S, sitting above the Samsung Odyssey OLED G73SH S32HG732S and the similarly named Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80, which is a 6k, IPS monitor. Featuring a fourth-gen Tandem QD-OLED panel with VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certification, it competes against monitors with the same screen specs, like the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Gen3 and the MSI MPG 322UR QD-OLED X24. This Samsung monitor has a matte screen coating, unlike the glossy coating found on competing models. It includes an array of inputs, like high-bandwidth DisplayPort and HDMI ports, alongside a small USB hub with a USB-C port that has DisplayPort Alt Mode and up to 98W of power delivery. It also includes features to help reduce the risk of burn-in, like active cooling, a Thermal Modulation System, Logo & Taskbar Detection, and a Screen Saver setting.

Our Verdict

0.0
PC Gaming

The Samsung OLED G8 is incredible for PC gaming. It has a high 240Hz refresh rate for a smooth feel, and its high-bandwidth DisplayPort and HDMI ports mean it takes advantage of the latest graphics cards. It also supports all common VRR formats to reduce screen tearing. However, it has some distracting VRR flicker with changing frame rates in dark games, which is a downside if your computer can't maintain high frame rates. At least gaming feels responsive thanks to its low input lag, and it has a fast response time for sharp motion. It even delivers fantastic picture quality as it has deep blacks with bright highlights and no haloing, as well as a wide range of colors that look vivid. You need to use it in a dark room to get the most out of it, though, as blacks look purple in a bright room.

Pros
  • 240Hz refresh rate and VRR support.

  • Near-instantaneous response time.

  • High-bandwidth video inputs.

  • Low input lag at any refresh rate.

  • Deep blacks in dark rooms.

  • Displays wide range of vivid colors.

Cons
  • Blacks look purple in bright rooms.

  • Some noticeable VRR flicker.

Console Gaming

The Samsung G8 OLED is remarkable for console gaming. It supports all signals with modern gaming consoles, including 4k up to 120Hz, but it doesn't support Dolby Vision with an Xbox Series X|S. Motion looks sharp thanks to its fast response time at any refresh rate, and it has low input lag for a responsive feel. It's also a superb choice for HDR gaming as it displays deep blacks in dark rooms, highlights that pop, and a wide range of colors. However, blacks look purple in bright rooms, so you need to use the monitor in a dark room to get the best out of it.

Pros
  • Near-instantaneous response time.

  • High-bandwidth video inputs.

  • Low input lag at any refresh rate.

  • Deep blacks in dark rooms.

  • Displays wide range of vivid colors.

  • Supports most signals with gaming consoles.

Cons
  • Blacks look purple in bright rooms.

Office

The Samsung OLED G8 is great for office use, with some limitations. Its 32-inch screen is big enough for multitasking, and it has excellent text clarity, but there's fringing around letters due to its subpixel layout. On the plus side, it performs very well in a bright office space because it has remarkable reflection handling and gets bright enough to fight most glare. It also includes some productivity features, like an ergonomic stand and a small USB hub to connect your devices, such as a laptop. The downside is that it risks burn-in with constant exposure to the same static elements over time.

Pros
  • Remarkable reflection handling.

  • Bright enough to fight some glare.

  • Ergonomic stand.

  • USB hub with DisplayPort Alt Mode, 90W of power.

Cons
  • Fringing around letters.

  • Risk of burn-in.

Editing

The Samsung G8 OLED is fantastic for content creation. It's accurate out of the box, but because it doesn't have a dedicated sRGB mode, you need to calibrate it to have perfectly saturated colors or avoid white balance issues. It delivers fantastic picture quality regardless, as it displays deep blacks in dark rooms, a wide range of vivid colors, and highlights that pop. That said, you need to use it in a dark room to get the best picture quality, as blacks look purple in a bright room. Lastly, it has some perks to help with your workflow, including a USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 90W of power delivery, allowing you to quickly connect your laptop.

Pros
  • Deep blacks in dark rooms.

  • Displays wide range of vivid colors.

  • Remarkable reflection handling.

  • Bright enough to fight some glare.

  • USB hub with DisplayPort Alt Mode, 90W of power.

  • Excellent out-of-the-box accuracy.

Cons
  • Blacks look purple in bright rooms.

  • Fringing around letters.

  • Risk of burn-in.

  • Colors are slightly oversaturated before calibration.

HDR Picture

The Samsung OLED G8 has fantastic HDR picture quality. It displays deep, inky blacks in dark rooms, without any haloing around bright objects. It also covers a wide range of colors and makes them look vivid. However, blacks look purple, and colors desaturate in dark rooms.

Pros
  • Deep blacks in dark rooms.

  • Displays wide range of vivid colors.

Cons
  • Blacks look purple in bright rooms.

SDR Picture

The Samsung G8 OLED has outstanding SDR picture quality. It displays deep blacks in dark rooms alongside a wide range of colors. However, the black levels rise in bright rooms, making them look purple.

Cons
  • Colors are slightly oversaturated before calibration.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We bought and tested the 32-inch Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 from Samsung's 2026 Odyssey gaming lineup. It's also available in a 27-inch size, and while it's expected to perform similarly for the most part, there are a few differences, like with its pixel density. This means the results are only valid for the 32-inch model. Keep in mind that it's also different from the similarly named Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80, with the differences you can see below.

Model Size Panel Type Resolution & Refresh Rate
    G80SH S32HG802S 32" QD-OLED 4k @ 240Hz
    G80SH S27HG802S 27" QD-OLED 4k @ 240Hz
    G80HS S32HG80 32" IPS 6k @ 165Hz
    3k @ 330Hz

Our unit's label indicates it was manufactured in April 2026 in Vietnam. We tested it on firmware 1000.2.

    Popular Monitor Comparisons

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 is a high-end 4k, 240Hz QD-OLED. It's an upgrade over the older Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SD S32DG80 because it has a newer fourth-gen Tandem QD-OLED panel that gets brighter. It even includes modern features that the older model lacked, like DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth and DisplayPort Alt Mode with 90W of power delivery over USB-C. Lastly, it's fantastic for gaming with its sharp motion, high refresh rate, low input lag, and incredible picture quality.

It competes directly with other models with the same panel, like the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM Gen3. While this monitor is fantastic overall and offers many of the same features, it's only something to get if you prefer the matte coating of the Samsung over the glossy coating of the ASUS. The advantage of this is that the Samsung has much better reflection handling, but images and text are hazier. A downside to consider is that it lacks a coating to reduce black level raise in bright rooms, so unlike other modern QD-OLEDs, blacks look purple in a well-lit space.

    Dell Alienware AW3225QF

    Track

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S and the Dell Alienware AW3225QF are both 4k, 240Hz QD-OLEDs. The Samsung has a newer QD-OLED panel that allows it to get brighter. There are some differences in picture quality because of their screen coatings. The Dell has a glossy coating with a clearer image, but it has more mirror-like reflections. On the other hand, the matte coating of the Samsung has much better reflection handling at the cost of added haze. They're similar otherwise, but the Dell has a curved screen, and the Samsung has a flat screen. Plus, the Samsung has DisplayPort 2.1 bandwidth and DisplayPort Alt Mode, both of which the Dell lacks.

    ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM

    Dell Alienware AW3423DWF

    Track

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S and the Dell Alienware AW3423DWF are different types of QD-OLED monitors. The Samsung is more well-rounded because it has a higher resolution, faster refresh rate, and higher-bandwidth ports to take advantage of the latest graphics cards. That said, the curved, ultrawide screen of the Dell provides a more immersive feel. They also have different coatings, so choosing one over the other may come down to personal preference. The Dell has a glossy coating with a clearer image, but it has more mirror-like reflections. On the other hand, the matte coating of the Samsung has much better reflection handling at the cost of added haze.

    How We Test Monitors
    How We Test Monitors

We buy and test more than 30 monitors each year, all of which we purchase ourselves, without cherry-picked units or samples. We put a lot into each unbiased, straight-to-the-point review, and there's a whole process from purchasing to publishing, involving multiple teams and people. We do more than just use the monitor for a week; we use specialized, custom tools to measure various aspects and deliver objective, data-driven results. We also consider multiple factors before making any recommendations, including the monitor's cost, its performance compared to the competition, and whether it's easy to find.
