The Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80 is a high-end 32-inch, 6k gaming monitor with an IPS panel. With a 165Hz native refresh rate, it features a dual mode to boost the refresh rate to 330Hz with a lower 3072x1724 (3k) resolution. Part of Samsung's 2026 Odyssey lineup, it sits above the 5k Samsung Odyssey G80HF S27HG80, and it's different from the 4k Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S, which has an OLED panel instead. This monitor has typical gaming features, like FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC Compatibility, and HDMI and DisplayPort 2.1-bandwidth ports. It also includes a small USB hub to connect your devices, alongside an ergonomic stand to quickly adjust it.

Our Verdict

0.0
PC Gaming

The Samsung G8 is good for PC gaming. It has 6k, 165Hz and 3k, 330Hz dual modes, giving you versatility between detailed or high-frame-rate games. Motion looks sharp for the most part, but there's still inverse ghosting and blur as the refresh rate drops. It also has low input lag at any refresh rate and supports all common VRR formats to reduce screen tearing. Plus, it has high-bandwidth HDMI and DisplayPort inputs to take advantage of the latest graphics cards. The biggest downside for gaming is that this monitor has limited picture quality, particularly in HDR. Blacks look gray due to its low contrast ratio, and it fails to make highlights pop, with a terrible local dimming feature that causes haloing around bright objects.

Pros
  • 6k, 165Hz and 3k, 330Hz dual modes.

  • Low input lag at any refresh rate.

  • Consistent motion handling across VRR range.

  • High-bandwidth DisplayPort and HDMI ports.

  • Big 32-inch screen.

Cons
  • Some blur and inverse ghosting with fast-moving objects.

  • Low contrast ratio; blacks look gray.

  • Highlights don't pop in HDR.

0.0
Console Gaming

The Samsung Odyssey G8 is great for console gaming. It takes full advantage of the latest gaming consoles with 4k signals up to 120Hz, but it doesn't support Dolby Vision with an Xbox. It has low input lag for a responsive feel, and motion looks sharp for the most part, but there's inverse ghosting and blur as the refresh rate drops. Unfortunately, it's a disappointing choice for gaming in HDR as it has a low contrast ratio, so blacks look gray in dark rooms, and its local dimming feature fails to improve this. It also doesn't make highlights pop for an impactful HDR viewing experience.

Pros
  • Low input lag at any refresh rate.

  • Consistent motion handling across VRR range.

  • Supports 4k @ 120Hz with gaming consoles.

  • Big 32-inch screen.

Cons
  • Some blur and inverse ghosting with fast-moving objects.

  • Low contrast ratio; blacks look gray.

  • Highlights don't pop in HDR.

Office

The Samsung G8 is excellent for office use. Its high 6k resolution results in high pixel density and sharp text clarity, which is ideal for reading documents or browsing through websites. Its 32-inch screen is also big enough to open multiple windows next to each other. Plus, it gets bright enough to fight some glare in a well-lit office space, but reflections are distracting if you have it in a sunny room. It also includes an ergonomic stand that makes it easy to adjust, and its fairly wide viewing angle helps if you need to share the screen with someone else. However, it has an IPS glow that makes the edges of the screen look washed out with raised blacks, even when viewing from directly in front of the monitor. It also lacks a USB-C port to quickly connect a laptop.

Pros
  • Sharp text and image clarity due to high pixel density.

  • Ergonomic stand.

  • Bright enough to fight some glare.

  • Big 32-inch screen.

Cons
  • Distracting reflections in sunny rooms.

  • Noticeable IPS glow.

  • No USB-C port for laptops.

Editing

The Samsung Odyssey G8 is very good for content creation. It has detailed images thanks to its high 6k resolution, and its high pixel density results in sharp text clarity. It also has a big enough screen to view more of your editing content at once. It's accurate out of the box, but it has some white balance issues that benefit from a full calibration. Unfortunately, it has limited picture quality for editing content in HDR, as blacks look gray, highlights don't pop in HDR, and its local dimming feature fails to improve the picture quality. It also has IPS glow that causes raised blacks at the edges of the screen. On the plus side, it has great brightness, so it fights some glare well, but reflections are distracting in a sunny room.

Pros
  • Sharp text and image clarity due to high pixel density.

  • Ergonomic stand.

  • Bright enough to fight some glare.

  • Very accurate out of the box.

  • Big 32-inch screen.

Cons
  • Low contrast ratio; blacks look gray.

  • Distracting reflections in sunny rooms.

  • Noticeable IPS glow.

  • White balance issues before calibration.

  • Consistent motion handling across VRR range.

Cons
  • Some blur and inverse ghosting with fast-moving objects.

SDR Picture

The Samsung G8 has decent picture quality. Its biggest advantage is the fact that it displays a wide range of colors. However, the downside is that blacks look gray due to its low contrast ratio.

Pros
  • Displays wide range of colors.

Cons
  • Low contrast ratio; blacks look gray.

Color Accuracy

The Samsung Odyssey G8 has excellent color accuracy. It's very accurate out of the box without any sort of calibration. However, it has white balance issues that you would need to fix with a full calibration if you want near-perfect accuracy.

Pros
  • Very accurate out of the box.

Cons
  • White balance issues before calibration.

    Differences Between Sizes And Variants

We bought and tested the 32-inch Samsung Odyssey G8 G80HS, which is the only size available. There are similarly-named Odyssey G8 models in Samsung's lineup, but they are different, which you can see below, and the results are valid only for this model. Keep in mind that the full model code may vary between regions and even retailers.

    Popular Monitor Comparisons

The Samsung G80HS is a high-end 6k, 165Hz gaming monitor with a dual mode to boost the refresh rate to 330Hz with a lower 3k resolution. It gives it versatility for playing different types of games, and it performs well enough for gaming with high-bandwidth HDMI and DisplayPorts, low input lag, and a fast response time, but there's still blur with fast-moving objects. Its high resolution gives it a unique position in the market, and it offers more gaming features than other 6k displays, like the ASUS ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV.

However, there isn't anything that stands out about its performance, and it's quite costly for what it offers. With an IPS panel that doesn't have Mini LED backlighting, it fails to deliver an impactful HDR experience, as blacks look gray, highlights don't pop, and colors aren't vivid. If you prefer better picture quality, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G73SH S32HG732S is a dual-mode OLED that's an alternative with better picture quality and improved motion handling, but the trade-off is that it has a lower 4k resolution.

Also see our recommendations for the best Samsung monitors, the best 32-inch monitors, and the best gaming monitors.

    Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S

    Track

Despite being similarly named, the Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80 and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SH S32HG802S are different types of monitors. The G80HS is an IPS monitor with a higher 6k resolution for sharper text, and it includes a dual mode to boost its refresh rate to 330Hz with a lower 3k resolution. Plus, the G80HS gets brighter and doesn't risk burn-in with constant exposure to the same static elements over time, so it's the better choice for work. On the other hand, the G80SH is a 4k OLED that has the advantages for gaming and picture quality. Motion looks sharper, and it delivers deeper blacks with brighter highlights and more vivid colors.

    LG 27GM950B-B

    Track

The Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80 and the LG 27GM950B-B are both high-end dual-mode gaming monitors with high resolutions. Despite the Samsung having a higher 6k resolution than the 5k screen of the LG, they each have similar pixel density. They also both have dual modes to go from 165Hz with their native resolution to 330Hz with a lower resolution. They perform similarly for gaming, but there are differences in terms of picture quality. The LG uses Mini LED backlighting, resulting in better local dimming for deeper blacks and highlights that pop in HDR. The LG also displays a wider range of more vivid colors than on the Samsung.

    ASUS ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV

    Track

The Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80 and the ASUS ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV are both 32-inch, 6k monitors. They're meant for different uses, as the Samsung is focused on gaming with a higher refresh rate, including a 3k, 330Hz model. The Samsung also has better motion handling, so fast-moving content looks sharper. On the other hand, the ASUS is focused on productivity, and it includes a bigger USB hub with Thunderbolt 4 support, which is ideal if you have a Thunderbolt laptop. The ASUS also has better reflection handling and improved brightness, making it the better choice for use in well-lit rooms.

    Samsung Odyssey OLED G73SH S32HG732S

    Track

The Samsung Odyssey G80HS S32HG80 and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G73SH S32HG732S are both dual-mode gaming monitors. There are some differences between them, as the G80HS has a higher 6k resolution, with a 3k dual mode, while the G73SH has a 4k resolution with a 1080p dual mode. The G73SH is more well-rounded, mainly due to its OLED panel. The G73SH has better motion handling and improved picture quality with deeper blacks and highlights that pop. However, the G80HS gets brighter, so it's the better choice for well-lit rooms.

    How We Test Monitors
    How We Test Monitors

We buy and test more than 30 monitors each year, all of which we purchase ourselves, without cherry-picked units or samples. We put a lot into each unbiased, straight-to-the-point review, and there's a whole process from purchasing to publishing, involving multiple teams and people. We do more than just use the monitor for a week; we use specialized, custom tools to measure various aspects and deliver objective, data-driven results. We also consider multiple factors before making any recommendations, including the monitor's cost, its performance compared to the competition, and whether it's easy to find.
